The sunny and cheerful condo has two bedrooms, with the option to use the second bedroom as a work space or kids bedroom, a fully equipped kitchen, and an open living and dining area that gets tons of natural light in addition to the killer ocean views. There's also a large, shady lanai with seating for 2 to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Pacific. Please note that the bedrooms are separated from the main living space via sliding shoji screens; while the screens offer visual privacy, they are by no means soundproof. The amenities at Hanalei Colony Resort make this the perfect spot for a slow-paced, laidback vacation. Walk just a few steps and you're right on a warm, sandy beach away from any crowds! Or, spend a day by the pool and hot tub, lounging in the sun and grilling in the outdoor kitchen. If you need to truly unwind and pamper yourself, the Hanalei Day Spa is just across the parking lot and offers some incredible services (can you say beachside couple's massage?). You'll also find the Opakapaka grill & bar on site for some tasty seaside bites, as well as the Na Pali Art Gallery & Coffee Shop where you can peruse some beautiful art while enjoying a morning brew. Additionally, there is an on site coin-operated laundry room, so be sure to bring some quarters! (the front office can usually make change if you don't have any) For those of us that like to get out and about, Hanalei Colony Resort K4 is still conveniently close to many main attractions. Take a quick 15 minute drive and you're in the heart of Hanalei town, with all its charming boutiques, restaurants, and cafes. Grab a bite to eat or a shave ice before heading to the iconic beaches of Hanalei Bay for the day. Tunnels Beach, perfect for snorkeling, is only 3 minutes away driving, or 20 minutes on foot if you prefer to walk. Ha'ena Beach is just another 3 minutes down the road, and is an absolute hidden gem with pristine waters and some of the best sunsets in the world. You're also just 10 minutes away from the Limahuli Garden & Preserve, which offers an introduction into native Hawaiian culture and its ties to the natural landscape against a backdrop of dramatic mountains and the Pacific Ocean. For any basic grocery needs, as well as delicious sandwiches, acai bowls, coffee, and shave ice, head 3 minutes down the road to the Wainiha Country Market. You'll also find a lovely selection of local goodies you won't be able to resist. Please note that Hanalei Colony Resort was built in simpler times in a more remote location. The resort was designed with the untouched environment as the main draw, and does not offer all the luxuries of modern resorts. There is no dishwasher and no TV in the unit (although there is Wi-Fi), and it takes longer to access other parts of the island. Drive time to Princeville and Kilauea is roughly 30 minutes, to the East Side (where the airport is) is 70 minutes, and to the South Shore is over 90 minutes. We highly recommend renting a car, as third party guests are unfortunately NOT able to use the resort shuttle services. We do, however, encourage guests to take advantage of the North Shore Shuttle, which services locations such as the Wainiha Country Market, Limahuli Gardens, and Ha'ena State Park. The shuttle will pick you up in the parking lot of Hanalei Colony Resort (super convenient!), and advance reservations are required. As with most homes on Kauai, this vacation rental is NOT air conditioned, however there are ceiling fans in each space and additional tower fans to help with air flow. This is an upstairs unit. You must be able to go up and down 2.5 flights of stairs (roughly 25 steps) to access the unit. There are no elevators. Although this home has internet, the speed and reliability cannot be guaranteed due to the remote location and the service being provided by a third-party. It feels as if the owners have neglected it. Our stay was interrupted several times with maintenance workers as they were discovering a leak from the second bathroom into the unit below. Making the second bathroom inoperable for most of our stay. The unit has no closet space. Just a small dresser in the second bedroom. There is a table on the lanai, but the soffit has seen better days. It appeared to be almost rotten and falling off. All of the furniture is pretty beaten up and dated.All of the towels were stained.And the day before we left the disposal in the kitchen sink went out and the kitchen sink was forever backed up. I made the mistake of booking this unit through a rental company. Unlike all of the other reservations that I have made at this property in prior years. We will be back, but I will be more careful when making the reservation. ##### Julie Renee D. The restaurant onsite is not operational, but you can get coffee in the morning. (Our unit did not come with a starter supply of coffee as promised).Our favorite thing during our stormy stay was the pool and hot tub. The pool temperature was divine! So warm and amazing. As others have noted, the ocean-adjacent location has taken a bit of a toll on some elements (like hardware), but the property was clean, the grounds immaculate, and the view to the breaking waves amazing. Not fancy upscale, but comfortable, homey, and (for us) just right. Kitchen was reasonably well equipped - we cooked all but one meal during our stay. It was our 1st time in Hawaii, and we really enjoyed staying at this unit as it was close to the beach and feeling away from other tourists. The unit had everything we needed away from home. We spent our time within north shore area. This property is needing some attention due to its proximity to the ocean. The usual battle with rust and the need to lubricant Cabernet hinges before they break . It appears that the sliding doors to the main bedroom never were modified after the flooring installation. It did not matter to us but it might bother those who expected to close off the bedroom for privacy. A great place to sit and relax with good food and the best shave ice I have ever had on Kauai and Kona Hawaii. ##### Timothy A. We really appreciated that Opakapaka Grill and morning coffee shop were right on the property so we didn't have to drive. Our place had a lovely view of the beach from the big picture windows, and although the unit was a little "tired" the furnishings were comfortable, attractive and completely adequate. ##### Ann O. The condo was very comfortable, had everything we needed. We used the blow up bed provided. Loved having 2 bathrooms. We utilized the boogie boards and beach bag provided every day. We ate at the on site restaurant a couple of times when we didn’t feel like driving back to town. Our week was pure bliss! 4 happy campers. The location of this condo couldn’t have been better for all the best hiking and beaches. We would definitely rent this unit again! Thank you so much! ##### Shannon W. The units are older & hard to keep up with the conditions, but we knew what to expect as we have stayed here many times before. The sink & bathtub drain in the front bathroom are very slow. The lanai doors are very hard to slide open. The unit could use a kitchen sheers, ice bucket, pizza cutter, pitcher & a strainer. Also it would be great to use the resort shuttle!
