Good room with a nice view to the garden. However, the receptionist on duty when we arrived could not have seemed less interested, and the car park is inadequate, and the hotel charges you to use it, in top of the room fee.

Excellent location , really old hotel . We stayed in new annex ,superior double facing beautiful gardens. Very quiet for us . Parking may be an issue as it’s on a first come first served basis for £12 per night. Only 25 parking spaces,so if it’s busy! Just ask when booking here. Staff were excellent from checking in to leaving. I’d recommend this hotel as everything is within a comfortable walk from here.

Lovely hotel. Our room was an accessable room (not requested or required) so the bathroom was functional and gigantic but not 'nice'. Our window had a car parked next to it. The beds were very soft. Saying all of that it was a lovely place with a lovely garden, staff were lovely and breakfast was expensive but convenient. I would def stay again. Location was amazing and price was competative.

Location great No small fridge in room ,and hotel bar closed before 11 pm , on Friday night even though we were part of a large wedding party that the hotel must have known That was disappointing as no attempt was made to serve us as they were licensed to 2 am

The hotel is a very old-fashioned hotel situated in the heart of Winchester. The location was perfect for us and the hotel car-park was a God-send. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The hotel decor is very tired and in need of a facelift (which is happening in early 2024) but room was very comfortable with easy-to-access Wifi. We have recommended that more drawer storage is made part of the planned facelift as this was very limited.

Pleasant enough hotel, very convenient for town centre, quiet at night. Average size room, comfortable bed, but tiny bathroom/no shelf, small shower/ water not very hot. We went for the Christmas Market location was great and only a short walk. Hotel although clean looked a little tired. We were offered complimentary coffee and mince pie although when we came to use it, it only covered one person which seemed bizarre.

Lovely building with a lot of character and in an ideal location to visit Winchester and the Christmas Market. Room was cosy, quiet and had a lovely view over the secret garden, which looked lovely, even in winter. Breakfast was extra but plentiful with good quality hot food and cereals - more than adequate before a day's exploring. Staff were really pleasant too.

Extremely friendly staff and comfortable spacious room - the only small criticism would be that it took a very long time for our room to be serviced in the morning; we tried to come back to relax and it hadn't been done by 2pm and 3pm consecutive days

I was a little unsure after reading some bad reviews on this hotel . On arrival we managed to get a parking space in the hotel car park . Check in was easy and the staff were polite and helpful. Other members of staff and management were friendly. Our room was spotless , warm and a great size . We over looked the gardens so the view was pleasant to . Tea and coffee in the room also water . The location was perfect, literally a few hundred yards and you are onto the main shops . The bed was huge and comfortable. Breakfast was also great . Would definitely stay here again .

Hotel has gone badly downhill
This used to be our hotel of choice when staying in Winchester but not anymore. On arrival we were curtly told come back at 3 and in the end, we couldn’t access our room until 3.20pm – I know a lot of hotels state 3pm but 99% of the time the rooms are ready much earlier. On going to our room there were no cleaning staff, or any staff in sight, so I’m guessing this was just a tick box exercise. We asked to book breakfast and were told that breakfast was from 7.30 and 9.30 so I said 9.15 and was told that slots were hourly, i.e. 8am or 9am so I chose 9am – I’m not sure how would you pick 7.30 then? I note that the hotel is now run by London Rock Partners and the staff are obviously not happy apart from the odd shining light trying to maintain a smiling face, but you can tell even those staff are feeling despondent and stressed. Nothing like the calm, efficient and pleasant staff before the takeover. I blame management for failing to energise and encourage the staff after the takeover. Some obviously need training with regards to customer facing roles, but the whole atmosphere is one of staff floundering around under zero cohesion and leadership. I would say this hotel is now run akin to the budget chain hotels with lots of petty rules. I emailed London Rock – The Hospitality Experts (NOT) but had no reply.

Some positives - great location, clean room, quiet, early check in. Negatives- our room was given yo someone else, they came in as we were watching TB with our toddler, giving out the correct rooms is pretty much basic for a hotel, the other guest was appalled. Another let down was the service in the bar, it was very slow and they are clearly lacking enough staff.
