#Slowtravel~wood-fired hot tub, cold plunge, forest-bathing, earthing, beach
Connect with serenity on the spectacular Sunshine Coast. Nestled on a hill overlooking Sargeant Bay with private access to the waterfront, and surrounded entirely by greenery - our home invites families or small groups of friends to instantly experience the cheerful yet relaxing coastal vibes.
Newly renovated with modern amenities and styled to make your stay an unforgettable one, Guests may just never feel a need to leave the property during their stay. Step out to the patio deck of your choice with your morning coffee, bbq lunch or glass of wine in hand, all the while indulging in the refreshing ocean air, breathtaking views and wildlife spotting. The property has a well-maintained 180-step staircase for direct access down to the ocean, so pack in a good workout! Take a stroll along the pebbled beach over to Sargeant Bay Provincial Park, or enjoy swimming and water play in the calm bay waters. This is your perfect escapade from the busy city life.
Featuring a modern Scandinavian design, our home is laid out spaciously on three levels for families or friends to spread out, or enjoy cozying up together in the lounging spaces indoors or outdoors. Stepping through the front door, you will enter the main floor and find a fully-equipped kitchen with everything you need to cook your favourite meals, plus a breakfast nook and window seat looking out to the Bay; a large open concept space combining the dining and living room, along with the walk-out patio deck and sweeping oceanviews; and lastly, a spa-inspired bathroom with an oversized shower.
The entire upper floor is an open, luxurious loft with a sleeping area, a dedicated workspace, an intimate lounging area, and a small outdoor deck for drinks, reading or sunset yoga with more gorgeous Bay views. Perfectly designed with families in mind, there is a King-sized bed, two (2) Twin-sized beds, and a sofa bed futon-style. While the loft offers private quarters and blackout curtains entice sleeping in on lazy mornings, being without a door means those sleeping up there can hear others who might be up early, or up late hanging out.
A private master bedroom awaits on the lower floor of the home, where Guests will find a King-sized bed and a full ensuite with a bathtub. The laundry complete with washer and dryer is available for Guests' use, next to additional lounging space that would make quiet afternoons spent indoors just as enjoyable.
Experience Shrinyin-yoku (Forest-bathing practice in Japanese) in a private wood-fired cedar hot tub. Discover the spirit of forest bathing on the Sunshine Coast, and breathe in the aroma of cedar as you soak your worries away. *NEW Cold Plunge~Spring 2025* Experience Shrinyin-yoku in a private hot/cold wellness retreat with a *wood-fired* cedar hot tub and cold plunge tub.
Immerse yourself in a rejuvenating wellness journey at our serene retreat. Begin with a soothing soak in our traditional wood-fired hot tub, letting the warmth relax your muscles and calm your mind. Then, invigorate your senses with a refreshing dip in our new Cold Plunge Tub, designed to awaken and energize. Popular on Sunshine Coast visitors' wishlist, Halfmoon Bay is a centrally-located home base with proximity to a variety of activities on the Coast.
The sandy beach at Sargeant Bay Provincial Park’s day-use area is excellent for sunbathing, swimming and picnicking. The sand and pebbles give way to large boulders and rock cliffs that jut out into the northern section on the bay.
The diverse habitat of Sargeant Bay Park’s beach, lake, marsh and forest support a large variety of birds. The marshland is an important stopover for migrating harlequin ducks, Canada geese and trumpeter swans, as is the upland area a host for migratory songbirds. The tidal marsh supports a great variety of waterfowl, including loons, grebes, cormorants and ducks.
Look for bald eagles, hawks and owls which frequent the area. From the walking trails in this forested park you can witness salmon fighting their way up the fish ladder in the fall. The salmon ascend the ladder and go on to spawn in the creek. Local volunteers have undertaken an ambitious project to restore the wildlife habitat around the bay.
Visitors can enjoy canoeing, kayaking, boardsailing and fishing at the park, and Sargeant Bay also provides good opportunities for scuba diving close to shore.
The best bird viewing seasons on Sargeant Bay are winter & spring. For reasons unknown, the number of species and birds using this habitat declined drastically in the 1990’s. Typically, you can find loons, grebes, cormorants, seaducks (Barrows Goldeneye, Surf Scoter, Common Merganser), alcids (Common Murre, Pigeon Guillemot, and especially Marbled Murrelet), and gulls.
Notes on property and guest access:
The home is accessible via a short but steep driveway for one vehicle, which during dry weather is easy for most, but when covered by snow or ice, we strongly recommend an AWD vehicle to use the driveway. There is also parking available for up to 2 vehicles on the street in front of the house. This area does get snow in the winter so we ask Guests to be prepared for winter-season driving conditions especially when staying between December-February.
As you venture out to the backyard and descent on our private staircase to the beach below, please use caution and hold onto the hand railing as needed. Please look after the little ones as they will undoubtedly be excited to discover their surroundings!
Guests have full access to the entire property during their stay.
As our home is on a septic system, we ask that nothing but toilet paper to be flushed into the toilets. Please also do not let cooking oil or food waste wash down the kitchen sink and drain. Currently the wood stove on the lower level is not available for use, but the electric fireplace on the main floor is terrific for snuggling on cozy evenings.
Notes on seasonal travel:
Summer - please note firebans and water restrictions per local authorities.
Winter - we highly recommend bringing chains to help driving in snow and slippery winter road conditions.
Notes on wildlife:
We are located in an area with abundant wildlife - bears, deer, coyotes and more make appearances. 1. Please do not leave any kind of food or consumables unattended outside.
2. Guests must clean up the bbq after every use.
3. Ensure all vehicles are locked at all times.
4. Always use caution when exploring in nature and the great outdoors. Notes on quiet hours:
Because we are located in a quiet and friendly neighbourhood, we would appreciate all Guests to keep to quiet hours between 9pm-7am.
Notes on Guests & group size:
NO PARTIES or EVENTS - only up to 6 guests at the property at all times. We are not a venue for large gatherings, and our home is on a sensitive septic system.
Notes on Security:
For security of the property and safety of our guests, we have an outdoor security camera located on the front porch with a view of the front steps and driveway. There is no active recording. There are NO cameras inside the house.
Notes on no-pets policy:
Subject to extra charge if pets are brought to property without approval.
If Guests are found violating house rules, Guests acknowledge they may forfeit their security deposit.
We look forward to sharing our home with you!
Please help us conserve water while visiting the Sunshine Coast.
We’re all visitors on the traditional territories of the Tla’amin, Klahoose, shíshálh, and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh nations. While exploring the Sunshine Coast, please remember to be safe, responsible, and respectful.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please inquire when the hot tub will be ready for guest use.
-A full drain and refill of the hot tub due to misuse may result in an extra charge.
IMPORTANT: The guest must read and comply with hot tub usage rules and sign a waiver as required. No signing of waiver, no use of hot tub. Not complying with the rules will result in a fine.
WOOD-FIRED CEDAR HOT TUB:
As a part of your forest-bathing experience, the brand new cedar hot tub smells absolutely amazing and offers a gorgeous view over the water and treetops. The cedar hot tub requires very specific care and can only be handled by our hot tub tech, including any draining and refilling as required. Using firewood as a heat source, please note that it can take up to five hours to warm up, and there are no jets. Guests must thoroughly read how to start and maintain a fire in the firebox of the hot tub. The water temperature typically reaches 95-99 degrees, and the slow sustainable fire-starting process is well worth the relaxing soak and wonderful aroma!
Availability of the wood-fired cedar hot tub is subject to seasonal SCRD fire bans and rules.
ADDITIONAL NOTE: Hot tub and cold plunge baths are an extra amenity we offer. In case of shortage of firewood, water restrictions and rare malfunctions, it may take time for sourcing of wood, parts and repairs. No refunds or credits will be issued for any days of your stay when the hot tub or cold plunge are unavailable. We thank you in advance for your understanding.
Campfires on the beach or any part of the property are strictly prohibited.
