Vacation in the forest on Loon Lake: spacious; scenic; fun. Waterfront House on Scenic Loon Lake Nestled in the forest, this lakefront home has it all. You can enjoy panoramic views from the stunning open concept communal space. But, why stay inside when the large private yard includes a scenic bluff and shoreline on Loon Lake? Of Michigan’s 11,000+ inland lakes, Loon Lake in Hale, Michigan, has to be one of the gems. It is tranquil, yet rated for all-sports, so whether you are looking for a quiet getaway or a family holiday of active fun, you won’t be disappointed. Come visit anytime—we promise, it is spectacular in every season! Indoor Space: Chuck the Buck welcomes you! This house has 2900 sq. ft. of living space with all the comforts and conveniences of home. The cathedral ceiling of the entry level creates a huge gathering space with enough lounge seating for everyone. It is open to a fully equipped kitchen and indoor dining around the dinette table or at island bar stools. Yes, we have a large screen TV, but don’t forget to check the entry cabinet for games and puzzles. The entry level also has two spacious master bedrooms with comfortable king size beds, two full bathrooms and a dedicated laundry room. Off season visitors (Oct-May) may appreciate the warmth and ambiance of the gas fireplace. The giant upstairs loft includes a half bath, lots of sleeping space (queen, bunkbed, twin bed), couches for hanging out, desks for your students or the work-from-home folk, and even a play area with a few toys for the kiddos. On the upstairs landing, you will also find a book nook with a selection of classics and a beanbag chair to nestle into. Also available, an electric piano—please respect the instrument, children must be supervised. Check out the the lower walk-out level for the improvements we are working on. Currently, there is a pool table and another lounge area. We also have a "staging area" that has a variety of items for outdoor use (floats, life jackets, lawn chairs...). In the plans for 2025, a bench swing on the hillside--great spot to enjoy golden sunset views. Outdoor Space: Gather, Visit, Play, Make Memories! This is why you book here! Enjoy outdoor meals on the full-length deck (propane barbeque available), a tranquil morning with a cup of coffee on the lower patio, or sunset campfires at the top of the bluff (firepit and firewood provided). The 35’ elevation enhances the view! Wide, gradual, sturdy steps provide access to the lake level or take the switchback walking path down the hill (new). Lakeside improvements (2023) created a 106’ ribbon of flat land at the lakefront (construction pictures posted--grass has now come in). Two docks (May 15-October 30) provide access to gradual slope and sandy bottom Loon Lake for loads of waterfront fun. Guests are welcome to use our two kayaks and one canoe (paddles and keyhole style lifejackets provided). Please bring custom fit lifejackets for children and non- swimmers. Motorized watercraft are not included in the rental, but you may launch your own boat at the nearby Plainfield Township public access site for fishing or all-sports fun. Tourist Stuff: You cannot do it all in one visit! Hale is the gateway to the Huron National Forest, 20 miles from Lake Huron, close to multiple hiking, cycling, and skiing trails, many ORV trails for off roading in all seasons, golf courses, hunting, fishing, even shopping (if you must—Tawas) and so much more. Check the entryway guestbook for local options and add your own suggestions for future guests. When we first arrived, we immediately noticed the beautiful view, open & spacious living areas, as well as the cleanliness of the home - the floors were literally shining! This home was the perfect fit for our family (2 grandparents, 3 "kids", & 3 grandchildren - ages 9, 7, & 4). There were plenty of rooms/beds (& bathrooms!), lots of kitchen/food prep items, & a great selection of games - both indoor & outdoor! If you have small children, they were well prepared with kid-friendly items (we noticed a baby bath/other items in the closets, kid-friendly toilet seats, & a variety of toys/life jackets/water floaties). While there wasn't air conditioning, they had several fans, as well as an attic fan to use before bedtime. So inquire & pack less if you have certain needs/preferences! We wished we had used the path to the water earlier vs the stairs - the slope seemed a little easier, especially when carrying all of our beach items. The stairs weren't too awful (& probably good exercise lol!) - we just tried to plan ahead so that we didn’t have to keep running back & forth. We did have a little adventure when some rain/wind came through quickly, but made it just fine back to the house (though a little wet & winded! ) Jim & Lori were very responsive & informative, even before booking. We all agreed that our rental pick this year was MUCH better than last year's (which was right on Lake Huron, but small & in desperate need of a deep cleaning). From the moment we walked in, we were struck by how clean and comfortable the home was. The house is fully stocked with everything that may be needed - tons of extra towels and bedding, dishes, utensils, and cooking/bakeware, games and puzzles, outdoor games, even extra supplies for dogs and young children. Plenty of firewood was stacked and ready to go. The lake was warm and quiet, and the dock was perfect for our boat. The owners' communication was clear, responsive, and warm and friendly, and they allowed our dogs. We have rented many lake homes for vacation over the years, and this ranks at the top! There were 6 adults 4 kids and 2 dogs. There was plenty of space to accommodate all of us and still not feel like we were on top of each other. The lake was just perfect and the kids loved the kayaks and fishing off the dock. The house was very clean and well stocked with everything we needed. We are definitely going to rebook this house.Jim and Lori answered all of our questions and were very prompt with their response. The property has everything you could imagine. We rented a boat from a local place and had the best time of our lives. The shore is shallow and sandy, great for younger kids to play in or gradually wade out. The house is outfitted with everything you might need. The owners are fantastically kind. The home was beautiful, fully stocked with everything we needed and was very clean. We had a bonfire all the time and the wood was supplied. We really enjoyed spending time in the water, btw, the water is crystal clear! The steps going to the water are not bad going down…coming back up was a little rough after spending hours floating on the water. If you have bad hips I wouldn’t recommend. Overall our experience at this home was fantastic and my family created wonderful lifelong memories. ##### Robin G. This place surpassed our expectations and we had an amazing week. We felt spoiled. Everything was clean and seemed new. There is a great view of the lake and we kept our boat tied at the dock. The house was spacious and comfortable. Beautiful lake views from every window. We kayaked, canoed and swam. We grilled dinner on the patio and enjoyed a bonfire, toasting marshmallows on the fire pit. Communication with the owners was excellent! Highly recommend this place! ##### Kathy J. It was exactly what we needed. The lake was perfect; the sitting area made it so easy to stay down there for the day. Lots of room! The cottage itself was perfect. Ample living space and the bedrooms were great for each of the 3 couples. Jim and Lori were fantastic hosts and very responsive leading up to the trip. It was so peaceful and quiet on the lake. There are lots of great areas both indoors and outdoors to spend time. Jim was extremely responsive to questions, including right when we got in at 10 pm for a question about how to turn the grill on. We only had 2 people, but there was a lot of room for additional people if you have a larger group. I would love to go back! ##### Natalie F. I rent several vacation homes each year and this is as good as any. Nice owners and if you have not been to Loon Lake you are in for a treat. Three generations (4 grandparents, 2 parents, 2 kids) were all very comfortable because the home is so spacious and cozy. We enjoyed the fall colors along the River Rd Byway. There were trails for hiking and scenic overlooks to accommodate all ages. Great communication from the owners and plenty of blankets, pillows, and anything needed in the kitchen.
