My room was huge, airy, with a great balcony, and a comfortable bed. The pool and hot tubs were nice, when they were open, but didn't care much for the restaurant quality for dinner (the Chinese place, every other similar meal in Hainan that I had was far better). Breakfast was a huge multi-cultural spread, but ran out of plates and working espresso machines on the weekend. After 10pm the pool has signs that say "closed, swim at your own risk" but they mean the first part (closed) and not that you can swim (yelled at). And I think the hotel was perfect for the purpose. The room was reasonably priced, while it was comfortable and clean. The environment was peaceful and quiet to allow for plenty of time to reflect and relax. The facilities weren't wide in variety but sufficient. The hotel tried their best to provide good customer service. The English level on the whole was a bit weak, but those key points of contact were very helpful and courteous. The funny thing I found was that communication by Cantonese was a lot more smoother than with English. The speed at which the food is served in the restaurant can be a bit slow, so it is not really a place for a rush or quick bite. I think the in restaurant speed was almost the same as the room service timing. The location is far from the city and the airport, so be prepared to arrange a private driver or spend a little bit on taxis. We wished we had been able to stay more than one night. The rooms are lovely, with a deep jetted tub and separate spacious shower. The beds in China are known to be rock hard; these were better and we got a comfortable night's sleep. The grounds are tropically beautiful. Many pools and hot tubs for guests to enjoy. We enjoyed the evening entertainment while having a drink in their lounge/lobby. Kudos to one of the young gentleman employees named Edison. He answered many questions for us and even handled getting us tickets for the train to Sanya. We would definitely recommend this hotel for beauty and service. While Hainan and Haikou does not come close to Hawaii either in beauty or amenities, the Sheraton Haikou Resort, located on Holiday Beach, a 3 mile long beach to the west of Haikou, is a world-class resort. The grounds are beautifully landscaped. with easy access to the beach. The rooms are nicely decorated and have many touches one would expect to find in a luxury boutique hotel (e.g. free standing "designer" bathtub). Good restaurants, and one of the best breakfasts I've had while in China. It's people are friendly, attentive, and make sure your stay is a pleasant one. English is spoken by much of the staff which makes it nice if your Chinese is limited. It has an excellent pool area, beach and more. We will definitely make a return trip. ##### RL
