#### Colourful murals, quirky galleries and artisanal boutiques bring to life the bohemian side of this old-world boulevard and its surrounding neighbourhood.

As one of Suwon’s main avenues, Haenggung Street is a fascinating hub of activity and culture. Its teahouses and quaint shops selling locally made handicrafts offer a glimpse into the local culture. Examine the various murals and other works of art adorning the walls of this colorful district.

Stroll leisurely along the street, taking in the unique sights and sounds. Relax with hot beverages and snacks in a typical teahouse and imagine this historic street as it may have been centuries ago.

Read a book, chat with the artists and vendors and watch people go by in this busy part of Suwon. Lining both sides of the road are eclectic handicrafts shops, where you can purchase all types of gifts and traditional pieces.

Try a workshop and learn to make your own crafts in the local Suwon style. Rest at one of the many restaurants and cafés serving traditional Korean culinary delights. You can even rent a traditional dress, known as a hanbok, for memorable photographs of your time in this neighborhood. Stay into the evening with a few drinks at one of the bars.

Plan for up to an hour to explore all of the neighborhood’s murals. See how these elegant paintings tend to depict daily life for people living in the region. Enter the Alternative Art Space Noon to view works by local artists.

Note that the area is also known as the Haenggung-dong Mural Village. The sidewalks can get rather crowded on weekend afternoons as people come to view the paintings, chat with friends and enjoy the pleasant surroundings.

Find Haenggung Street in the heart of Suwon, a little south of Seoul. Ride a bus to the stop near the Hwaseomun Gate in Jangan Park and walk southeast for a few minutes to get to the street. While you’re in the area, check out the Seojangdae Western Command Post, the Hwaseong Palace and the Paldalmun Gate.

We’ve been a repeat guests for Sejong. Really appreciate the hotel’s cleanliness and amenities. The room was clean, even housekeeping did a good job when we requested for our bed to be made. The only thing that didn’t change is the worker’s union protest, that seems on-going even before covid. Fortunately, they didn’t bother hotel guests but get a bit crowded when the protest at the lobby though.
