![The famous pink lakes of Mexico, Rio Lagartos. A magical sight! Pink waters and blue sky, It was like sunset reversed; a feast for eyes! There are plenty of colorful salt lakes near Las Coloradas/Rio Lagartos in the Yucatan peninsula. It is just 2 hours drive away from Chichén Itzá and around 3 hours from Cancun. Public transport is scarce in this part of Mexico. 
We took a rental car and it was an easy and comfortable journey for us :) Once we reached Las Coloradas, we were welcomed by giant white salt mountains. After driving around the salt mountains for some time, we finally found someone local who took us to this beautiful private salt lake.

"Property needs lots of work! Kitchen tap kept falling off, towel rails loose in both bathrooms, leaking walls when raining. Needs a good clean and better pillows. Nothing supplied ie no salt, pepper, oil, sugar, tea or coffee. Not even a tea towel supplied to dry the dishes with. Far from town so need to taxi if you don’t have your own car. Cost was generally around MXN70-100 each way. No good restaurants or bars nearby. Would not stay here again."

"The house is beautiful. The garden is even better. Don't over look the value of the breakfast included. Maxu our host was super fun and an excellent cook. Half of us are vegetarian and the food was one of the best part of the trips. We added a few dinners that were a great deal. Our primary purpose was to birdwatch in the area early in the day and then play in the yard and pool. In the yard alone we identified 45 species. "Relaxing and lovely spot, can’t beat the beautiful beach right out the door with pelicans floating by. Setting is definitely unique, but friendly and chill and the space very comfortable. In particular we really enjoyed the pool for our 2 year old. Some minor mishaps in communication ahead of check in but they were resolved with care and responsiveness, and we got to thoroughly enjoy the weekend. "

"Everything was great! The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The room was kept very clean and stocked with water, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages. They even went all out for my birthday with a towel cake and champagne. The resort is beautiful and the private beach access was perfect. The locals were allowed to be on the beach to sell you items, but they are not super pushy. If you so no thank you, they move on. I would definitely return and will recommend this resort to friends and family!"
