Great hotel, friendly and helpful staff, good food, nice pools, a touch of class. Unfortunately surrounded by banana plantations from which annoying flies land on you as you sunbathe (and on your food if you eat outside).

We absolutely loved our stay at the Ritz Carlton Abama. The facilities and grounds are fabulous and although it's a big hotel, with so many different areas / pools it never felt over-crowded. The buffet breakfast is amazing and we had two excellent dinners in the hotel too. I would highly recommend it and would love to come back.

We found it was to large, they advertise Tennis but they don’t own them, we could play tennis! Rooms smelled of sulfur. For Ritz we would go to a resort style again, we have stay at Ritz hotels before but in cities the are great but not resorts.

Could Have, Should Have, Been So Much Better
This is a gorgeous property, although in need of an update, and by most accounts, we enjoyed one of the best villas. That being said, I would hesitate to return. While virtually everyone we encountered was very friendly, it seemed as if many of them were brand new. Virtually every experience was challenging due to confusion and poor staff training resulting in lost dinner reservations, half-hearted room cleaning and in case of our spa treatments, an odd mixture of confusion, non-functioning elements (lights, lockers, etc.) and lackluster technique, resulting in the general feeling of “blah”, which was a microcosm for our entire experience. We enjoyed a few nice meals but in general this was not up to Ritz-Carlton standards.

I have never had such attentive and quality service before. The staff was phenomenal! Some of the best bartenders I have ever come across. The restaurants and breakfast was delicious. It is admittedly far from anything, so be sure to book a dining spot at the hotel ahead of time. The private beach is a real bonus. Very nice staff.

Lovely stay would go back.
Service is on point, really amazing staff. Lorena at reception was very helpful. Rooms are nice and spacious. Pool staff were so nice, especially Ginscar. Breakfast could be better, the sausages were very oily and the hollandaise sauce on the eggs royal was not hollandaise, expect better from the Ritz. Housekeeping didn’t clean our room on the second day sadly, think there might have been a confusion when we asked them to come back later.

Staff were inflexible and unaccommodating. Everything was too much trouble. Hot water didn't work for two days. So we had to shower and bath in cold. Beach had two hour waits to get a sun bed. Buggies we’re severely limited in use, parking was inconvenient and negated the benefit. Main bar closes very early and is understaffed. Took 40 mins to get drinks. Service not up to normal Ritz standards. Wonder if this location is a franchise?

Necesitan mejora muchísimo el servicio de conserje— están muy mal en esta área. Entiendo que están sobrepasados por el verano pero no justifica la mala atención. También es increíble pensar que pedimos una hamburguesa y nos dijeron que había que esperar una hora para comer — increíble lo mal organizada su cocina— una hora espera! The property was very beautiful, from the moment we stepped in to when we left, the service was impeccable. Lots of amenities to use, the private beach was lovely and the food at the beach house was amazing and delicious. The Ritz Abama is an incredible property with excellent cuisine. We stayed for a week and enjoyed every restaurant including two Michelin star restaurants. The staff is incredibly dedicated to taking care of the guests, always with a smile. We will definitely return for another visit!

This is a beautiful hotel on the best side of the island with very good service throughout the property (as expected of a Ritz) & excellent food offerings to last a whole week - we stayed that long and was able to eat dinner at a different place every night. A lot of reviews complain about the walking but it really isn't that bad, plus we personally appreciated hills/stairs to walk off all the amazing food we ate. Our favorite was Abama Kabuki. Highly recommend staying in the adults only villa. They have their own pool with attendant and rooms are spacious. The Ladies & Gentlemen also know how to take care of guests - my husband and I mentioned we were coming to celebrate both of our birthdays and we got an upgraded room and left us special treats on the day of. We emailed a couple of times the week or so before and they were super responsive. Last random things: Loved going down to the beach and being able to use the chairs/umbrellas while charging drinks from the beach club to the room. Both husband and I had incredible massages at the spa, we were late because we fell asleep at the pool so didn't get to enjoy the water facilities so make sure to go at the time they suggest. They ended up giving us bath salts afterwards that we got to use in the hotel room. We went right before the busy season started so we got to enjoy a quieter time & more flexibility - although we scheduled most dinners online about a month in advance. Rented a car and parking was free at the hotel.

Terrible terrible service! The staff in the main lobby do not know what they are doing. We waited over 30 mins to be asked if we wanted a drink, we were sat at table right in front of the bar. When the drinks came they were wrong. We ordered some food. The food came before the correct drinks came. In total we waited over one hour for our drinks. This service continued through our stay. Also we had made some changes prior to travelling to the hotel this had all been agreed by the hotel. When checking in they had no notes about this and it took a long time for them understand the changes. We were never noticed that the restaurants were very busy and we needed to book early so it was disappointing to not be able to eat out at in the hotel restaurants when we wanted to. The staff didn’t seem to know basic information, I asked reception where the gift shop was. The lady explained how to get there with a buggy and off I went straight away to find it was closed! Why not tell me that when giving me directions? House keeping was very inconsistent sometimes we would get water, sometimes they would give us enough towels, sometime they would give us toilet paper. One evening my daughter spilt a drink on the bed it soaked through. It was the evening and We were on our way out so I took the duvet and left it over the table on our balcony. I informed housekeeping when we returned at 11pm the duvet was freaking Cold outside and no had put a new one on the bed. Many more disappointments

Excellent Hotel away from the crowds.
This is a luxury hotel away from the madness of South Tenerife. It is isolated so a hire car is useful but at least 7 restaurants including a 2 star and a 1 star Michelin restaurant on site mean that if you choose, you can have dinner in a separate establishment each day of the week. The staff were universally very helpful and exceptionally friendly. My only criticism was the internet was sporadic and difficult to connect to in many locations. Would we go back...absolutely!!

Too many issues to count
Horrible customer service with exception of housekeeping and wonderful restaurant staff service, not what I'd expect of a Ritz Carlton brand. Had reservation wrong despite multiple emails to confirm date changes, initial greeting was rude, getting restaurant reservations was like pulling teeth, issue at kids club with no apology from management for any of our multiple issues, so disappointing and would not repeat. Loud music from their lobby performers keeping my children up at night. What 5 star hotel does not provide baby soap/shampoo, they charge 25.00 for it in the gift shop instead, kids sunscreen for 30.00.

Overall very good, but some disappointing aspects
First night allocated a pokey room in the corner with virtually no view Moved next day to a much better room ( getting what we paid for ) Hotel a little shabby in places Very comfortable bed Cleaning staff helpful Golf course excellent ( 30% reduction for guests ) Breakfast excellent, although often chaotic Evening meals , variable quality, extremely over priced ( as are the wines ), restaurants often fully booked, for days ahead Would have been sensible for hotel to advise advanced booking is necessary, even before arrival Quiet pool was very pleasant Beach crowded ( and no umbrellas if it was windy ), helpful pool and beach staff

The Ryanair version of the ritz
We generally had a good stay, however staying at the Citadel kinda felt like the Ryanair version of the Ritz Carlton. We had the half board package and about 80% of the meals came at an extra charge. Also, it was a struggle securing sun lounges at both the pool and beach, where people would reserve them all day, but only use them for a couple of hours. The hotel has a policy against this, but the staff don’t enforce it and actually help (Spanish) people keep their lounges even when they haven’t left personal belongings, just in case they want to come back. When there’s a waitlist, they also give preference to Spanish people. The beach chairs are also rented out, so although you’ve paid for them as part of your stay, you risk being denied one while they rent it out to someone else. Not cool. The balconies on the rooms are also of a very varying level of attractiveness. We were really lucky to have sun and a great view, but some were in complete darkness. The grounds and rooms could really do with some maintenance and the breakfast buffet is pretty basic. So like Ryanair, it could be really great, but you could be unlucky and you should expect lots of extra charges for the full experience. Other than that, the staff were friendly and let us check out late. Housekeeping was good and restaurant staff were also friendly.

The hotel is good from all prospects. It is clean; amenities are good; service is top class; food at the restaurants were fantastic and resort as a whole is great. The resort would be even better if it had a better pool table; the coffee at breakfast could be a lot better; lighting in the room could be brighter (especially when the day is cloudy, the room is quite dim); gym equipment could be newer. However, overall great place to stay and will come back.

Be aware the double charge
It is very disappointing to figure out our room rate had been double charged. Apparently we had pre-paid the whole amount accommodation fee via hotel.com (proved by our confirmation email ), however the hotel charged the same amount of accommodation fee again upon our check-out. We are frequently travelers, to be honest this is the very first time we experience something like this in a Ritz-Carlton hotel.
