It’s too large and almost like a wholesale factory. The beach is too public, the property can use a facelift, the keys getting deactivated and people hounding on to the pool chairs since 6 am. Annoying. Won’t be back at this hotel but will be back at Costarica. Perhaps the most annoying thing was that the desk agent actually tried to charge me for an extra key when their keys keep getting deactivated. Food is very very good. Staff at the restaurant is amazing.

My stayvat rhe Riu Palace for the most part was a good experience. The staff that I encountered were fabulous. Everyone was always smiling and eager to help you. The food buffet was the only place my wife and I ate. I would have to say this was the best buffet I have ever eaten at any hotel. The hotel grounds are immaculate. There are only two problems I have with this hotel. One problem is the bathroom by the pool, they only have one bathroom outside for four pools. The restroom is clean and its in the Papagayo restaraunt. Its not a far walk but its a little inconvenient. My second proble. Is the rooms need to be updated. You can tell it has been a while since the decor was put together. Its not a wow factor but just a basic room. Other than those two factors I think you will be happy with your stay.

This was not my first stay at RIU Palace and I was disappointed to know that it isn’t an adult only resort as the other locations of Aruba, Mexico and Jamaica. Could have saved me about $500.00. The customer service was amazing per usual. Food was okay. Didn’t get the opportunity to try any of the restaurants because by 8:00pm they were not accepting any reservations. The slides are a little rough, we were not able to remain in the pool. It’s the only resort area. Upset that we couldn’t leave the resort because it was about a 25 minute drive to the main road. This resort is perfect to hang out and do excursions.

It seems the quality of the food in the a la carte restaurants has gone down. The beef dishes in particular all tasted the same. Rooms could do with a paint refresh.

The Riu is a nice place - and the staff is very friendly... As an all-inclusive resort, the vibe is very 'party' and most of the guests are drinking from dawn to dusk... There is live music and dance music right outside the windows every single night until 10:30 or 10:45. The room was sort of 'run down', lots of layers of paint ont he painted furniture , with every layer of paint revealing more grime and chips... it just feels cheap to have a bunch of painted furniture. The room smelled totally dank and musty. When we came home, every single thing we had in the room reeked of mildew and mustiness. The food in the restaurants and buffets was very good. The drinks from the Coconut bar byt he pool were very nice - and a little weak, but that is to be expected.

Very nice property. The beach was not suitable for wading/wave jumping. The pool atmosphere was pretty rowdy at times…too much like spring break for us. Staff was excellent. Friendly and easy to visit with. Food at specialty restaurants was good. Buffets were better than most. !

Was on par with other Riu resorts I have been to. Staff were friendly and helpful. Grounds were well kept and room was comfortable. A little updating needed here and there but pictures are accurate. Food was decent/good for feeding the masses. The specialty restaurants at this RIU are definitely better than other Riu resorts I have been to. Beach is clean and beautiful. A few vendors walking the beach but not so many that you feel accosted every minute. If driving yourself to resort be aware some of the roads are not well kept and kind of scary to drive on (very winding narrow two way roads, blind corners, up in the hills). Would definitely recommend arranging transport to/from for this reason. Great stay overall, very relaxing.

The place was absolutely gorgeous and lots of fun activities by the pool. We would’ve liked to have seen an authentic Costa Rican dining option for dinner, but the restaurants were good. Our favorite dinners were multiple times the Italian restaurant and the breakfast buffet. Everything we tried was delicious at both places and so many options with the salad bar at the Italian restaurant. Staff were extremely accommodating and friendly. You really can’t go wrong by choosing this all-inclusive resort. Highly recommend!

What a wonderful place to stay and the excursions in Costa Rica are like nothing else! The staff…. All of them…. Are friendly and always smiling (and funny!) Pura Vida! The only Con: people saving pool side seats…. Like by 7am all chairs have towels on them and some sit like that with no people in site for well into the afternoon….. I really really wanted to yank towels off, but I didn’t.

All in all the hotel is what you expect from a 5* in the Caribbean, it's not really a 5*. The rooms are good enough, humid and mostly clean. Food was good and service was also good. We travelled with a group of 30 for a wedding and many of us including myself got food poisoning. We all went to the same buffet and all got sick. Personally, I was sick for 5 days. It was really bad. I contacted the hotel and they NEVER responded to me which I think it terrible mostly considering that this is a RIU, an international chain. Not impressed and will not return.

I don’t know how to start from the check in till check out is extremely bad experience I never will be back to any RIU hotel and not recommend it at all! We had 3 rooms reservation and all of those smell very bad like toilet and super bad service and all foods not eatable! Over all not qualified even for 1 star !!!

The resort is beautiful. The live entertainment in the evenings were definitely entertaining. The restaurants were all great, especially the steak house. You’ll find monkeys not far from the resort and beautiful iguanas strolling through from time to time.

I had a great stay! The staff was friendly and helpful. I loved all the excursion I did - water rafting, the lunches included were so good, the hiking, the views of the zip lining unmatched. The hotel food was reliable and consistent. the only issue i had was with the air conditioning the room. It didn’t feel like it was on some times or it wasn’t as cold as i would like / used to . Overall i always recommend this hotel to friends if they want to visit Costa rica

We had a very enjoyable seven days stay at Riu Palace, Costa Rica. The staff at reception were very friendly, patient and answered all our questions/concerns. Special mention goes to Sharon at the reception. The view from our ocean view room was breathtaking! The room was big and the balcony was spacious. The bed was nice and firm. Housekeeping did a wonderful jobkeeping the room clean. The furniture needs to be updated though, they looked worn out. Loved the option of having five restaurants on the property. The buffet restaurants Arenal, and Papgayo were very good with lots of options. Special thanks goes to Monica at the Arenal restaurant. She is an excellent, very pleasant, capable maitre d, and always found a table to our liking, no matter how busy the restaurant was at that time. Loved the Japanese restaurant Tokio, and the fusion restaurant Krystal. Food and service was excellent there. Did not like the bathroom layout in our room though.The toilet (with a door) is separate from the shower and the sinks. The sinks are seperate from the showering area. The showering area has a half door without a lock, and does not have hooks to hang clothes. There is mildew on the grouts in the shower.There is a huge jacuzzi tub in the room, which I think is redundunt. The room will be much nicer if the toilet, shower and the sinks are all in one room with a door, and an exhaust fan. Frequently there is sewage smell coming from the toilet area.

Este hotel necesita urgentemente un update. El mobiliario es viejo, pintado sobre pintado dejando ver diferentes capas. Los colores violeta y fucsia de cortinas y sillas son una combinación terrible, junto con lámparas en color gris metalizado que ya están desajustadas por el tiempo (veladores inclinados, lámparas de pared flojas, espejos con manchas de humedad). Debimos cambiar de habitación porque las de la planta baja tienen un olor a humedad insoportable. Los baños de todas las habitaciones tienen olor a cloaca. La atención del personal es excelente. Siempre dispuestos y de buen modo. La comida también es muy buena, especialmente en el bufet (los restaurantes no son tan buenos ni con tanta calidad, especialmente el Steak House que nos sirvió carne quemada que debimos dejar sin probar siquiera). Mi percepción es que el precio es muy alto para el mantenimiento general que tiene el hotel. Aún así disfrutamos nuestra estadía.

Our room was on the lowest level and was very damp and musty smelling. All of our clothes, even the clean ones have a musty smell to them. Our TV had to be replaced twice because it didn’t work or stopped working. The refrigerator in the room was broken. On the bright side, the grounds were beautiful and the staff amazingly polite and attentive.

A huge, gorgeous hotel, wait staff, housekeeping exceptional. We had ours meals at their buffet which had something for everyone. Mini fridge barely worked and was never maintained after numerous phone calls to the front desk. Shower head had some sort of clog, water only came out partially For such a gorgeous hotel there should be more general upkeep
