Great hotel!!!

Posted 21-Sep-2016
The hotel is right on the beach. That's a big plus for us. There's not many restaurant choices in the hotel and around the area. The good thing is that you may easily ride the public bus or take a taxi if you'd would like to try other restaurants within 2 - 3 mile radius. The hotel was under renovation at the time of our stay, but the hotel gave us a room upgrade and other freebies.

DON'T STAY HERE. THIS IS FRAUD.

Posted 19-Sep-2016
Cons: They can be honest about the condition of the property.
We reserved a room at this hotel on Expedia. We paid extra for a pool/ocean view and to have breakfast included in the rate. When we arrived at 11:00 pm we found out the entire lobby and pool area was completely torn up and there was heavy construction equipment working on the sight. When we found out about the construction we told them we did not want to stay but since we had already prepaid the reservation we had to contact Expedia for a credit. We called Expedia and were told that we would have to talk to the manager in the morning. The front desk told us they did not have the authority to do anything that night. Everything was dark so we could not see how bad it was but were told by the staff that we would not be disturbed by noise. We stayed the night (nothing else we could do) but I told the clerk that we expected the room to be free or heavily discounted. When we woke up we realize that the entire area outside our balcony was a construction zone. The backhoe started at 7:30 am (beep, beep, beep) the jackhammer started about an hour later. We went to the front desk and asked to talk to the manager. She was in a meeting so we called Expedia again. After an hour on hold we were told that they could only credit the future charges but since we stayed the previous night we had to pay for that. I disagreed, packed our bags and move the Beautiful Ritz Carlton next door. Everything we were told was intentionally grossly misrepresented. To add insult to injury we

Under Renovation with no Warning

Posted 19-Sep-2016
Pros: The Westin has been a great place to stay in the past and might be again in the future, but I'm afraid this experience has driven me away for good.
I've stayed at the Westin twice before and have always been pleased. This time I arrived to find the hotel under serious renovation (i.e. the lobby is now a tent in the parking lot, the pool is closed/gone, what used to be the lobby & lobby bar is a cavernous and very busy gut job). I was directed to a freight elevator to get to and from my room, and beach access was via a maze of construction hoardings. The jackhammering began at 7:00 a.m. and was strong enough to shake the room walls. The fitness center is now located in two adjoining guest rooms. Despite this, I was still charged the daily "resort fee". The renovation itself is understandable, but arriving to it unexpectedly is not. There was nothing to indicate when I booked that most of the hotel amenities would be gone or drastically reduced. I ended my stay 3 days early and went down the beach to a competitor where I received a better rate and a far better experience.

Construction!

Posted 7-Sep-2016
I have stayed at this hotel before and have had great experiences. This time however, that was not the case. The hotel is undergoing a complete renovation. Everything is closed and the noise is unacceptable. When I found out about this problem before the trip- i tried to contact expedia and try to change the hotel, but they were of no help. Either I go there, or dont go at all and lose money. I am very disappointed expedia did not warn me about this before purchase.

Pros: Close to beach and water sports provided.
Location: Not a lot of things to do nearby, a bus or taxi to get into the little towns.
Hotel was being renovated but staff was great and our room was great, away from the noise and very comfortable for three. The food we had in the hotel was great and service could not have been better.

Beware!

Posted 24-Aug-2016
Pros: We USED to love the swim up bar, the beautiful pool area, the palm trees, the sidewalk café. We love the friendly staff. The spa USED to be amazing.
Cons: Close the hotel for renovations, and reopen once it's up to Westin standards!!!!!!!!!!!!
Location: We never used to leave the resort because there were a lot of things to do on property - sailing, snorkeling, paddle boarding, etc.
We've enjoyed our stay at this hotel many times, however, this wasn't one of them. We didn't find out until after we had gotten there that the hotel was basically under construction, and we felt it should have been closed for a renovation of this magnitude. We could tell it wasn't going to be a pleasant experience, so we changed hotels. It will be awesome ONCE IT'S FINISHED, and we'll go back then. I know that resorts have to renovate occasionally, and we love to stay in a nice, updated room, but when the renovation is that extensive, the hotel should be closed. Imagine having a good experience with this going on: the entire area behind the hotel was torn out, i.e. the pool, with their wonderful swim up bar, palm trees, sidewalk café, lounge chairs - everything was gone; there was earth moving equipment running below our balcony door; we could only access the beach from the opposite side of the property; a portion of the hotel rooms were blocked off, and not being sold; the reception area was in a tent on the front lawn. How could you, in good conscience, sell rooms to people under these conditions? You know they're not going to have an enjoyable time. We expected more from the Westin. We felt we had been tricked. When you go to a place like the Westin, you are paying for the experience, otherwise, you'd book a room at Motel 6 if you only wanted the basics. It left me with a really bad taste in my mouth for the Westin. We felt that we'd been taken advantage of,

Do not recommend

Under construction. The air conditioning in the room would never turn off and the shower would not drain even after I asked them to fix it. The maids were not very friendly and slow to clean the room.

Beautiful place 6 weeks ago but now during renovation should be closed. Cannot understand charging full price under these conditions at moment.
