"Elegant hotel in beautiful setting"
This elegant hotel is a good base from which to make day trips to different parts of the Cotswolds. It is comfortably furnished, the staff are responsive and efficient, and the grounds are well maintained and good for quiet walks.

"Fantastic, bright little inn in North Cotswalds"
The inn is located in North Cotswalds in a little village called Stow on the Wold so you'll be about 10-20 minutes drive to cute little villages like Bourton on the Water, Upper/Lower Slaughter, Blockley and so forth. I don't have any complaints about location, and although it's right in front of a big parking square which isn't as charming as other villages, it ensures that you'll have parking. The inn itself and the room is fantastic; it has the exposed beams and weird/oddly shaped rooms and tilting stairs like many Cotswald lodging but with a twist -- it's bright and fresh with a little bit of a modern feel in colors and furnishing instead of dark and heavy like other lodges. Personally, I loved it, and the room I had was large, very comfortable, and had so many nice touches (free minibar, separate bath + shower, large mirrors for my wife etc) that I grew to appreciate more after traveling further into the UK. The only negative I have is the staff, whom I felt were robotic, stiff, and a bit dreary. Some of them might have a friendly-sounding exterior but it was kind of clear they did not care a bit about you. There wasn't a single person on their team I thought was really nice, except maybe the cafe staff.

"Beautiful and comfortable."
My 90 year old Mother and I spent two very pleasant nights at 131. Our room was lovely, large and bright and comfortable with excellent bathroom facilities, particularly the wet room shower. The downstairs drawing room areas are most relaxing and pleasant to lounge about in , reading the plentiful newspapers available. The buffet breakfast was delicious with great healthy choices, loads of fresh berries, nice breads, cheeses, juices. We much enjoyed it. The staff were charming and very hard working and quietly efficient. I was concerned about the parking, as there is no hotel car park but the hotel gives you a pass to park in an adjoining street and when we visited, it was not a problem to find a space. There are steps up to the main entrance of the hotel and there were stairs up to our room. There was no lift available so Mum had to take it very carefully. We both enjoyed our stay and would visit 131 again.
