Close to town yet very private. Featured in the Escape Section of the New York Times, this house is in a great location, six minutes by car to the town of Woodstock, yet secluded and surrounded in pine trees. This house has been called a true gem, updated with three lovely bedrooms and one bathroom. The property sits at the bottom of Ohayo Mountain on 2.6 wooded acres with partial mountain views. Close to skiing and lots of hiking. 🥾 There is a brand-new hot tub to die for! The renovated 1924 house has a brand-new kitchen with cathedral ceilings and several large skylights. The living room boasts a beautiful large quarry stone fireplace and cherry hardwood floors, with radiant floor heating in the kitchen. Adjacent to the open kitchen is a large glass-enclosed heated porch with a large dining room table and streaming sunlight—beamed ceilings. The house is beautifully decorated with an Eastern flair for a natural retreat feel. For music lovers, the living room has a piano. There are cozy queen-sized beds in two bedrooms and a full sized in the third bedroom. An original children's playhouse sits on the property for kids to have their own little house. Go into town have a latte and go to the great shops. Woodstock is well known for its art and music scene. Restaurants, crafts, hiking, horseback riding, and swimming are nearby. We stayed the week of Thanksgiving and cooked a full feast easily with the appliances and cookware found in the kitchen. We even woke up to snow a few times that week. We enjoyed the hot tub at night and the fireplace each day. Beds are comfy, rooms are cozy and location is ideal. This cottage was cute and closely resembles the listing! It was close to local attractions and right off a main road! A short ride to hunter mountain ski resort! which was the reason for our stay!The cleanliness of this cottage is the main reason for the negative review! I live in a 1850s farm house and consider myself very blue collar, but this cottage is in need of a major cleaning with general home maintenance required! We experienced excessive amounts of dust on fixtures, floors that haven’t been clean in a while, cob webs hanging in well trafficked areas, door latches lose missing hardware, laundry left in the dryer, and a leaking toilet flange that had waste water on the floor of the only bathroom. The part that was most disappointing, and the main reason for picking this location was the hot tub! Trying to overlook the cleanliness of the home, we went outside to soak after a day on the slopes and found the hot tub to be absolutely DISGUSTING! The water level was down below the jet line, lacking the smell of Chlorine, and full of mold/algae which I deemed unsafe to use! For the money spent we would have had a better, cleaner experience at a local resort. I have sent videos and pictures to Vrbo management, as Iv seen where previous comments were disregarded by host! There are so many activities to do around the property and to end our night in a hot tub was amazing each time! The only complaint we had was that there were a few dirty dishes placed in the cabinets. There is not a second bathroom, but there is an outhouse that is not able to be used. The renovated barn is cute but we did not use it. And the beds listed is not completely accurate. The listing says there are 3 queen beds, but there is 2 queen beds and 1 full sized bed. She is incredibly kind and responsive - and that just set the tone for the rest of the trip. Her home reflects her care and hospitality, going above and beyond to assure comfort and an overall good time. The home itself is gorgeous- the pictures that are posted do not do it justice. My favorite part of any vacation is having time to sit and read - and her sitting room is the ideal place to do so. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the people staying before us did not take care of the property as they should have, and the cleaning person (newly hired) did not do their job. Outside less than advertised. I first want to say I’m appreciative the owner and her sister last minute changed their plans and made the house available to me as I had a last minute cancellation from another owner before our trip. The inside of this place is nice and cozy as advertised. The “sunroom” for lack of better term has great views and offers great breezes. I could see the fireplace being amazing in the winter. The backyard however has definitely been neglected since the posted pictures were taken. The “new cedar deck” is not new at all and has not been maintained. Similarly practically all the outdoor furniture is also unmaintained and dirty. The landscaping also falls into this category. The only real reason to hang out outside is the hot tub, which also has some maintainence problems. This may not be a big deal for some people but our plan was to spend 90% of our waking hours outside and the posted pictures made it look like a paradise so it was disappointing.
