There is nothing like spending time on Big Glen Lake in Glen Arbor! Orchard Oaks Cottage sits back from the road on a huge treed lot, making it an ideal location for children. This quaint, chalet-style home with a vintage vibe has 3 bedrooms and 1.5 baths. There are two bedrooms on the main level and one on the upper level, and the loft area has a twin bed. An abundance of windows let in the great views and sunshine.

This home has a large wrap-around deck and a screened porch. The water is across the street but has easy access to the lakefront, plus a dock. No outdoor fires are permitted.

It is an easy drive to Glen Arbor for shopping, dining, and other fun local activities. Canoes and bicycles can be rented right in town. The Sleeping Bear Dunes and Lake Michigan are just minutes away. The home is 30 minutes from Traverse City.

Family Time

The house was a real treat. It’s hard to find a home to accommodate 3 adults and 3 children. We found everything we needed at the property and felt the rate was very fair. The lake access and layout of the home are perfect for family.

Glen Lake

The house is in a great location directly across the street from Glen Lake and only a few mins from the town of Glen Arbor. Pre check in communication and the check in and out process was great. The house has a very musty odor predominantly in the bedrooms. Overall we had a great stay and enjoyed the property.

Good location, dumpy cottage

We loved having access to Glen Lake and being close to town. But everything about this house was rickety, worn out or even broken. Bad lighting, kitchen drawers that barely opened,,rickety tables, chairs, even the stairway banister. Also there was a lot of clutter. I don’t need a fancy cottage but this was kind of depressing

Good Bones Dirty Cabin

Cabin is in great location with easy access to Glen Lake. It came equipped with kitchen items and linens for beds. Issue is cleanliness. Cabin had cob webs, dust, dirty kitchen and bathroom as well as dirty dishes. I wouldn’t recommend for this reason for the price.

Reviewer Comments: We have been vacationing annually in the Glen Arbor area for over ten years & Orchard Oaks is one of our favorite pet friendly places to stay. Located right on M-22, it is dog walking distance to downtown. We really enjoyed teaching our lab to dock dive into Big Glen. The beds were comfortable, which is not something we can say about most of the properties we have rented. However, it was definitely owner's cottage, not their house--meaning it is rustic. We would rent this property again & recommend it to others.

Plenty of space for 2 families with 4 kids 7-13 and a dog.We spent our mornings and late afternoons on the dock and our evenings on the deck after grilling dinner and taking advantage of the easy to get to hikes and exploring Glen Arbors laid back scene. Beds were comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked. Didn't see or hear neighbors - which was perfect. Fully intend to book the same property again next year. Highly recommend this gem. Thanks!

Glen Arbor Sleeping Bear Trip

I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The location was perfect but the photos of the property are misleading. The property did have a dock and direct lake access but the photos made it appear that the cottage was right on the lake not across the street. Some of the furniture looks like it was from the 60's but it was functional. Coffee pot needs to be replaced. It brewed the coffee very slowly and coffee was like water even though we put in double the amount of coffee than normal. Other than that, the kitchen was reasonably stocked. Cottage had a musty odor from not having the heat on. It did dissipate after the heat was on for a time but never really went away. One of the beds had dog hair and sand in both the sheets and bedspread. We washed both before using this room. Basically, it was a roof over our heads that met basic needs.

I emailed Visit up north after my stay but I didn't immediately reach out because in the check in instructions it states "no discounts for housekeeping issues" So this leads me to believe you know this is an issue and nothing would be done by complaining. there was also a tip envelope for the housekeeping staff which just really rubbed me the wrong wayThis house could be really great but unfortunately it fell short.

It was not clear that the house wasn’t on the lake, but was a cross the street so that was an initial bummer. Still a nice spot in the woods with a nice lake access and dock. The home is older which is quaint and has a kitschy appeal. It was comfortable for 4 adults and 2 kids for sure. The kitchen is small but functional, and had everything we needed. The screened in porch where the only table is, is dank and a bit depressing so we ate outside on the lovely deck. I think the biggest bummer was that it was not clean. Like really. I figured since it’s a pet friendly place there might be a few things, but this was a bit much. Not the end of the world, and nothing we couldn’t clean up, but just not great. I see they plan to update the bathroom which will be a vast improvement I am sure. Probably also time to address the dead trees over the house and parking area before someone’s car gets wrecked. Anyway all in all I would probably even stay there again knowing what to expect I would be less disappointed :)

Great location

Overall I thought this vacation home had really good bones. Close to dock across the street, saw some previous reviews complaining about having to cross street, it was no problem. Glen Lake was beautiful. Good appliances, all in good working order. The house is somewhere I would consider again, however I would definitely empty it out and do a complete overhaul of all the stuff. Very cluttered and dated, it was like everyone's grandparents' stuff was still there We had numerous extra guests in the walls scurrying about, a good cleaning is in order.

Orchard Oaks Cottage

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Compared to other rentals we have had, this cottage was below average. There were no issues with the beds, furniture, TV or Wi-Fi.However, one significant problem was that there was no indoor eating area. There is a screened in porch attached to the kitchen with a picnic table and benches which serves as the eating area. This was very inconvenient on most mornings because it was cold or when it was windy.The description of the cottage says it is set back from the road. However it was only about 150 ft from the road. Most significantly the street address we were given was South Glen Lake Road. While this is accurate we were not told that S. Glen Lake Rd is really M-22. There is a lot of traffic all day and, given the distance from the road, it is very noisy. Sitting on the deck was very unpleasant due to the noise. Because M-22 has a 45mph speed limit, walking our dog was nerve wracking. The only place to walk the dog was in the bike lanes and with the amount of traffic we were never able to go very far. Lastly the description said there was nice sandy frontage. There was no sandy frontage as in the description. The greenery goes right up to the water’s edge. There is a small deck with 2 chairs and a very long dock. The lake bottom near the shore is very rocky. To get to the sandy area you have to go to the end of the dock (there is a ramp to get in the water). The water is waist deep there. The “beach” is inappropriate for young children and small dogs.

The dock is amazing and the depth of the water is perfect for the boat. A mooring device was provided and sufficient. Orchard Oaks is one of the most beautiful locations on the lake!The rental itself had a “cabin like” feel giving it a true up north feel. Those with allergies may want to look elsewhere as a few of us ended up with our allergy symptoms acting up when in the home for long periods of time and then subsiding when out of the home for a period of time. When the weather is warm, you want to bring fans as there are very few provided that worked well. Although there is no air conditioning, the heat was very tolerable with appropriate fans running. We had an excellent time and we were able to share the experience with two well behaved dogs which is always a plus!

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The location was good, but the house was not clean.Two of my children and my husband had a terrible time with asthma. My husband and I spent about 3 hours one morning cleaning the floor and dusting picking up a lot of dog hair. It is old and rustic which could be charming, but needs several updates to kitchen and bathroom. Was hoping for a cleaner and more updated stay
