The hotel at Pelling said they couldn’t do anything abt it. So I called and emailed the Elgin main customer service at Kolkata couple of times. They were extremely rude, and hung up on me the first time, just after 3 minutes. I called hotels.com requesting a refund of the extra charges. Hotels.com agreed with us but the Elgin (Ms. Sonali) denied us any refund. I emailed the Elgin but they simply did not respond. Don’t book this hotel - we got NO view of the Kanchenjunga. Mr. Rao, the Manager at the hotel was extremely caring - ensuring my ill-health was attended to and he literally nurtured me back to health! They even gave us a packed breakfast for early morning departure. The hotel is an experience worth the money. The food however could be improved - cuisine is mostly only North Indian food! Room (including the bathroom) was very small 2\. The food quality needs improvement 3\. We had a few problems. When we arrived at the airport, the transportation we arranged through the hotel was not waiting for us. We ended up waiting for an hour trying to figure out where the driver was. Then we finally had to walk with all of our bags out to the parking lot in front of the airport. Poor communication by hotel management. The drive to the hotel was 5-6 hours on a windy single lane road. When we arrived, our queen/king was actually two beds pushed together because they have no larger beds. The room was cold every night, even with the small heater in the room. We asked for more blankets, but management said they do not provide them. The food at the buffet is often cold.
