The staff were all very welcoming, friendly and attentive without being fussy. We stayed in the Napoleon suite which had incredible views of the Loire from the balcony. The room itself was huge with beautiful period furniture and features. The bed was super comfortable, the bathroom was very clean with double sinks and shower and all necessities supplied were good quality. We enjoyed great food and wine in the restaurant with a 3 course meal plus some additional delicacies. A warm welcome and an excellent room. Staff very helpful. A liitle disappointed that the restaurant was closed on the night of our stay (Monday) but the receptionist suggested local places to eat. She enquired on availability but all were booked. Drove to Saumur (15 minutes away) and found several restaurants. Breakfast was great and the views across the Loire river were uplifting. Great location overlooking the Loire River. Audrey was wonderful when we checked in. She helped us get a dinner reservation for our first night and we were able to walk. Wish the restaurant had been open, but that can’t be helped. Breakfast was delicious on property. We felt like the wines in the bar were a little overpriced based on what we bought from the local vineyards. Lovely area to visit. It’s really in need of a remodel or at a minimum a refresh. Food service was impeccable but the food caliber was mediocre at best. The piece de resistance was when we woke up the next morning, ready for a big day only to discover there was no hot water. They didn’t just run out, there was literally no hot water fir days and there only response was “sorry, someone should have told you when you checked in”. It has lost some of the family charm, the menu is smaller, the house wine is now from Bordeaux from the owners vineyard and the internet in the bedrooms was inadequate. The stay was everything you expect from a four/five star establishment and the staff were of the correct calibre. The food remained exceptional. I probably will not be returning but would highly recommend if you want a romantic or peaceful weekend. (i.e. wifi totally unreliable, hair dryer wrapped with electrical tape and not working, leaky shower plumbing, dangerously slippery bathtub, peeling paint in the bathroom). The site has a spectacular view across the Loire but the property needs some upkeep. The saving grace was the staff who dealt with clients' concerns cheerfully and efficiently. Terrasse rooms are small and look like motel rooms, not a castle rooms. The staff is not friendly and looks condescending. There are no restaurants nearby. We either have dinner at the hotel or travel to Saumur. There are just a few coffee capsules provided, enough for one day. We have to ask for more and we're instructed to pay for these.
