As a result, you might experience construction noise, particularly during day light hours on weekdays. \*Please be aware that the suite only has a whirlpool tub with a handheld shower wand. There is no standup/walk-in shower. The Austin Street Retreat is an authentic historic home built by European settlers well over a century ago. Restored and embellished through the decades with modern amenities, there are now five unique suites. Located one block off Main Street in Fredericksburg's National Historic District, this premier property is an authentic Texas treasure built of stone, timber and stucco. It is situated on a large double lot shaded by old growth pecan trees and perennials from the LBJ Ranch. Each suite features elegant, charming decor along with a private terrace. Popular for Hill Country wine tours, family and friend reunions, special occasions and celebrations, the Retreat can sleep a total of twelve people. MARIA'S SUITE It all began in 1867 when immigrants John and Maria Walter built a log cabin structure and began their new life in Texas. The heritage of these pioneers is preserved here with eighteen inch thick walls, original paint on the ceiling, wood floors and wavy glass in the windows. Added later as the family grew and prospered was a limestone room. Both rooms are now bedrooms each with a Queen size bed. In addition, there is a dressing room, powder room enclosed space with a jetted tub and handheld shower and a sitting room with a flat screen TV, DVD and Time Warner cable. The lovely private terrace has an outdoor table and chairs shaded by a pecan tree which is the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or evening wine. The suite does allow one dog but we ask that is is 20 lbs or less. Furthermore, there is an additional pet fee. Please bring a crate for your dog and crate him or her in your absence from the house, do not allow the dog on furniture or beds, and pick up and properly dispose of their waste. If these rules are not followed, there will be an additional $200 charge added to your reservation. The suite uses Brooklinen sheets and towels and Helix mattresses. House Rules as Required by the City of Fredericksburg's Short Term Rental Ordinance \- Observe the City of Fredericksburg Quiet Hours (10pm to 7am in residential zones). No music of any kind after 10 pm. \- The City of Fredericksburg is a Dark Sky Community with outdoor lighting restrictions. However, the front exterior door didn’t inspire great feeling of security. It won’t stay closed unless deadbolted, there’s literally 3 locks on the door and I’m still pretty confident someone could easily kick it off it’s hinges without great effort. There’s also no shower. While the Jacuzzi tub was beautiful, it really isn’t conducive for quickly getting ready. No dishwasher or stove either. The furnishings were nice though and it has a darling little courtyard. It was very easy to get and return our key. When we first arrived, we had an issue with toilet, but the owners immediately came and fixed the problem. They were great! Only challenge we had was there was no shower. It had a large garden tub with a hand held shower. It ended up not being an issue and we had no issue showering in the tub. If you have any older folks staying with mobility issues, getting in and out of the tub could pose a challenge. We really had a lovely stay and would recommend this charming cottage.
