The cabin is gorgeous. The photos do not do it justice. Very well maintained and stocked. Was very happy to see the kitchen -- so many vacation rentals have unfortunate kitchens. The cabin is well designed. The scenery is beautiful. One morning, I woke up early, sat in the living room and looked out the gorgeous floor to ceiling windows and saw a heron in the river. That moment made my vacation. Appreciate the grill outside. Had to contact the property owners about an issue on a Sunday afternoon and they responded very quickly to resolve the problem. Also the place has a nice yard. My son and I played soccer on the side of the house one morning. The beds are nice and comfortable.
The trail down to the river is very steep and slippery with pine needles. If I were a property owner, I would be very concerned about someone slipping and being injured on the trail. This could be easily rectified with just a couple steps built in, even using the logs of some of the felled trees. I also have no idea why someone, I assume the property owners, are planting cedar along the trail and down by the river. Cedar grows like gangbusters and is going to completely block the river view. It doesn't make any sense to me. I was also disappointed that there is no way to sit by the river and walk in or even dip ones toes in. There is a large pile of old wood submerged in the water right along the property. Directly across the river was a nice little area, with a sandbar. Unfortunately there was no way to access it. That was incredibly disappointing.
I grew up in northern Michigan, near a waterfront that was kept wild for its natural beauty. So, I was not surprised by the vast amounts of mosquitos and I had brought bug dope along for when we went hiking. I was really disappointed that the property did not have mosquito traps. I sort of expect mosquito traps and vegetation management in high mosquito areas. The mosquitos made doing anything outside nearly unbearable, especially by the river.
Here are some suggestions:
A box fan would be great. It could move the cooled air from the living room to the rest of the cabin
The pillows were terrible!! Definitely need new pillows.
Mosquito traps are a must!
Put in some steps on the trail.
A little welcome pamphlet with near by restaurants and things to do would be very helpful. There is no WiFi & my phone had absolutely no service, so I couldn't look anything up.
