Perfect for a romantic couple getaway either on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail or simply trying to unplug and reconnect. This wonderful cottage unplugs from the real world and allows a chance to sit-a-spell on the wonderful screened in back porch while taking in the beauty of the Elkhorn Creek. Bring a kayak, canoe or fishing pole and enjoy all the wonderful stream has to offer right from your backyard. Perfectly situated just doors up from the famous Canoe Kentucky! The cottage is perfect for a couple, or possibly a couple with one small child. It has four rooms: a comfortable living room with futon couch and rocking chair, along with a fully usable wood stove; a bedroom with one queen size bed, comfortable sheets and even "Mimi's" homemade afghans; a sitting room with a great bench looking out over the creek and old school games to bring back memories from yesteryear; a wonderful fully stocked kitchen, with electric stove, coffee maker and refrigerator/ freezer. The bathroom is small, but comfy, with a walk in shower and novel homemade sink. The highlight spot in the home is likely the wonderful screened in back porch with twin porch swings, and cozy wicker furniture. A good long book is all you need to enjoy this space. Even in the hot summer months, the ceiling fans and the shade make this a comfortable spot, and the frogs and crickets at night might just find you falling a sleep on the porch! Located perfectly for the kayaker or canoeist, the Elkhorn Creek is the states most popular stream for these two activities. Canoe Kentucky offers rentals on the creek, and you can even end right in your own backyard, where they will pick the boat up from you later! The house is also very close to Frankfort and the center of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Only 10 miles from Buffalo Trace, and slightly farther to Woodford Reserve, Four Roses, Castle and Key, Glenn's Creek, Whiskey Thief and Wild Turkey. Also close to the great restaurants and shopping of downtown Frankfort, Kentucky. This house is not only perfect for bourbon fans, paddlers, and fishermen and women, but also for those wanting to enjoy Frankfort, the Kentucky State Capital. A short drive gets you to the Capital building, the Library and Archives, the Governors Mansion and most state offices. As well, located nearby is the Kentucky History Museum,, the Frankfort Museum, Fish and Wildlife's Salato Center, Rebecca Ruth Candies, and the Kentucky River. A great way to see much of this would be with our business, The Bourbon Boat aka Kentucky River Tours, who offers river history cruises and are considered one of the number one reviewed attractions in Frankfort. Of course we obviously recommend! Lastly., the home is conveniently located near many of Kentucky's horse farms, as well as the Keeneland Race Track, only 20 minutes away. Downtown Lexington is 30 minutes away. The Ark Encounter is 60 minutes away, as well as downtown Louisville. On top of this great location, we, the hosts, are Kentucky Bourbon Trail experts. We have been working in the Bourbon Trail world as guides for over 20 years! All this knowledge allows us to offer those booking this house to be given exclusive planning itineraries, tips and bourbon secrets. It was the perfect distance from town, 10min, to have solitude, but close enough to explore Frankfort. We enjoyed being able to sit on the screen porch in the mornings. Nathan and Alison were great hosts! Also if you get a chance we recommend taking a trip on the Bourbon Boat tours they offer. We came to the area to do some kayaking on Elkhorn Creek. This was the perfect place to stay. The proximity to the creek, Canoe Kentucky, and downtown Frankfort made it easy to do everything we wanted. The screened in porch was the perfect place to watch the lightning bugs every night. The owners were friendly, communicative, and made great recommendations for things to do in the area. Highly recommended! ##### Mickey P. The cabin was equipped with everything we need including recommendations. The cabin is located near water for kayaking and probably fishing. It is quiet and serene. The only thing was the lighting outside. We arrived after 11pm and it was pitch black. They did have a solar light, but it must have died out by that hour. ##### Nicole N. The location by the creek is really nice and the screen porch is fantastic. However, the bathroom is very cramped. The toilet is especially problematic if you are tall because it is quite low and positioned very closely to the opposing wall. Also, the road is fairly close and can be quite loud. Thankfully, the traffic died down after bedtime. I would love to give this 5 stars because of the super nice owners but in fairness, I cannot. ##### Karin S. The Creekside Cottage was a great location to get away from it all and slow down while enjoy the great porch swings (there were 3!). We kayaked and toured some distilleries and watched streaming British murder mysteries and played guitar.The first evening we had the dubious pleasure of enjoying the mating songs of the American road bike racer up and down the river for a bit, but otherwise it was pretty peaceful outside of the modest morning commuting traffic. ##### Ben S. The drive to the property is beautiful rural Kentucky countryside. It was fun seeing people escaping the heat by soaking in the Elkhorn river. We had a great lunch at Sage Garden Cafe in Frankfort. We enjoyed 2 evening trips to West 6th Farm, which is such a beautiful property with a food truck on site. NEXT time, we plan to book a kayak trip on the Elkhorn, which ends conveniently just a few houses down from this stay. Some reviews mentioned the traffic noise since the house is on a main road and we were a bit worried about that, but it honestly did not bother us at all.
