A clear lack of communication
I had the great misfortune of being in town on November 30th where at just after midnight, we were violently awakened to a barrage of fireworks and random explosions that lasted until 5:07 in the morning. Unbeknownst to me at the time, November 30th is a holiday in Amalfi for the patron Saint Andrew (Sant'Andrea) and the celebration begins at midnight and continues with various festivities throughout the day. All of that is fine and I totally get it, I mean, no one is going to complain about a celebration for a saint! But to not be informed of it at check-in and to be left completely baffled as to what in the hell was going on in the middle of the night is unforgivable. Further, to not offer an apology or even an acknowledgement is equally shameful. At the very least, with proper notification, we could've altered our days in Amalfi to avoid losing an entire night's sleep while on vacation. I chose Hotel Residence specifically because of its outstanding online rating and didn't even blink at the cost. But the lack of communication on something so significant as a five hour fireworks celebration in the middle of the night is egregious and a clear nonfeasance by the hotel staff and ownership. It's as if it never happened. And no, to this day we still have not been offered an apology or even an acknowledgement.

This is probably the best hotel in amalfi. We had a sea facing view and were right in front on the bus stop and ferry station. The only negative we found was it did not have AC on since we were visiting in Novemeber which is a bit odd for a 4 star hotel to have amenity like AC determined based on the weather outside. We are used to having AC at night. But overall I would not recommend any other hotel but this one for your stay in Amalfi and I would stay here again if visiting here.

Right in the city across from the bus station. This is the place you want to say at. You won’t need to have anyone shuttle your luggage cause it right at the bottom across from the beach club and Public beach. Great breakfast.. eggs, cheeses, salads, breads and pastry’s. The staff is super helpful and gave us directions and helped us map out the buses and ferries. Great view and awesome location. You really can’t beat it.. right where the shopping is and all the restaurants.

We wanted to have dinner in the elegant terrace restaurant but only allowed if you have the full-blown tasting menu , The restaurant is a different company to the hotel. So we went elsewhere while restaurant only a fraction full. Seems silly to me.

Love love loved our room at this property, the sea views were incredible, the balcony was small but all we needed, the location was perfect, so easy to walk around, buses just out the front, but surprisingly not noisy. Would definitely come back

Central, traditional, very good.
About as central as it’s possible to get. A lovely view from the front, our room had a balcony overlooking the bay. Simple decor, but very in keeping with the area. Decent breakfast included.

Great hotel! The location, right on the ocean, is near the ferry docks. So ideal for transportation, shopping and the beach. The hotel has a Michelin Star restaurant, Sensi, on site. We had a fabulous dinner with a 6 course tasting menu. So impressive! Definitely a must visit while you're there. Our room was large and clean with a lovely balcony overlooking the ocean. The view was spectacular. The staff were very pleasant and helpful when we ran in to a problem with a tour booking. Such a truly nice place to stay. Will definitely stay there again when we visit next.

The balcony views and rooms are amazing! The rooms are up to date and modernized and were incredibly comfortable. I was surprised how soundproof the rooms are. It’s not completely quiet, but more than enough to fall asleep

Hotel is nice but would have been helpful knowing the restaurant was only open for lunch, that there are no open bars in the entire place, and you are not allowed to bring back food or drink. Essentially you need to stock up on food and beverage before coming back. Not for anything, staff at the restaurant was AMAZING.

Disappointing check-in… “ocean view” room quickly turns to exhaust as you walk outside onto your balcony and find your overlooking the bus station and smog and noise pretty much ruin the beauty of the experience w/ lower front room assigned us. We had alerted them weeks prior it was our wedding Anniversary and no special care was taken for room assignment….. we asked to move to a room higher and facing elsewhere…. and lost any ocean view…which was still worth it, as the rooms facing out into the city are charming enough. Rooms are quite plain. nothing special there. Hotel has a charming staircase and really great breakfast patio with ocean view (not facing busses) …for that alone I might stay there on any other occasion at the right price. clean overall.

This is a very special property in a 180 year old building right on the Amalfi harbor. Completely updated interior and rooms with five star restaurant on premises. Fantastic staff. Only 27 rooms. This place defines a first class boutique hotel.

Hotel Residence is a must when in Amalfi. It is the perfect hotel in a perfect location. Include the breakfast which is absolutely delicious with beautiful panoramic views. Will always choose this hotel when in Amalfi.
