Escape to nature at Woodlands Cottage. This charming century-old cottage nestled under the trees in Douglas, MI rests on a beautiful four-acre tree-lined property filled with old majestic Pines and Maples. INSIDE THE HOME Woodlands is tastefully decorated in modern-cottage décor that includes art work from the Saugatuck region. The main floor features a full bath and the king size bedroom, upstairs there is another full bath with two bedrooms. SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS This home currently sleeps 6 guests First Floor Bedroom 1: King Bed Second Floor Bedroom 2: Two Twin Beds Second Floor Bedroom 3: Queen Bed OUTDOOR SPACE Relax with your morning coffee in the porched-in dining room while looking out into the woods, or relax on the back deck and soak up the sun, or build a fire and relax with a glass of wine under the century-old Maple on the patio. Enjoy the sound of the wind rustling through the forest while watching the regional birds visiting the bird feeders, and don't be surprised if you catch a glimpse of a deer or two passing through the grounds. The Fall season is a beautiful time to stay at Woodlands cottage. The foliage on the property and in the Saugatuck/Douglas area begins to change as early as late September and the color continues through to the end of October with the peak around the second and third week of October. The house is also redecorated for the Fall with decor and art from local area businesses. Was unable to get it repaired but brought paper products for us to use during the stay, so we were not stuck washing dishes our entire vacation. Our last day there was a mouse in the kitchen. The house looks small from the front but has lots of space inside. One large primary bedroom down with very comfortable king mattress. Full bathroom down isn’t en suite but fairly new and convenient for all. Two bedrooms up are one good size queen and a very small room with two twins. Enough bedding for changes in weather and. an extra air conditioner in the queen room if needed. Weather was a perfect 80 degrees for us every day. One note about the upstairs is that it needed a good dusting on all surfaces. The kitchen was a good size. We cooked several days and there’s plenty of kitchenware. Need more teaspoons! The dining room has lots of windows facing the well landscaped backyard which is a bird haven. Many feeders which kept the birds coming & going all day. Dining room is a great place to eat together or play games. We spent a lot of time on the back deck. Never got to light up the fire pit but it was very tempting. Gazebo was lovely! So nice to have coffee on the deck in the morning. Surrounded by beautiful tall trees, it projects peace and quiet. The inside of this home was nicely decorated with period furniture. However, a strong musty odor hits as soon as you open the door. The ‘cleaning’ staff should be retrained. The bedspread in the king room smelled. The sheets on that bed were old and pilled and barely fit the bed. They did promptly replace when we complained. Used a frying pan that had to be rewashed as there was a liquid in the bottom. It is an older home that may benefit from a dust filter. There was a lot of dust. A dehumidifier in the basement may help with the smell. Overall, our stay would have been much more enjoyable if the house had been cleaned as it should. Guests are not allowed to use the fireplace. House suited our needs for space. Kitchen was great and well equipped. Best feature was the darling gazebo, perfect for happy hour even when it rained.
