Please note: There are 3 steps in the garden.. Baytree Cottage is a charming two-bedroom cottage located in the picturesque coastal village of Hill Head, Hampshire. Originally built by the Admiralty at the turn of the 20th century to house coastguard personnel and their families, this historic cottage retains much of its original character. Set just a few minutes’ walk from the tranquil shingle beach, Baytree Cottage offers sweeping views of the Solent, providing a beautiful backdrop to any stay. The cottage comfortably accommodates couples or families, blending coastal charm with modern conveniences, creating a cosy retreat for anyone wishing to explore the South Coast.  
  
Hill Head Beach, just a short stroll from Baytree Cottage, is ideal for water sports enthusiasts, offering great conditions for sailing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing. History buffs may find it fascinating that Hill Head was a pivotal loading zone during the WWII D-Day invasion. Today, the beach exudes peace, inviting visitors to relax by the shore and watch the boats navigating the Solent.  
  
Nature lovers will find the nearby Titchfield Haven National Nature Reserve a must-visit. This diverse wetland habitat is known for its birdwatching opportunities, drawing visitors to its marshes, reed beds, and meadows. The Solent Way, England’s Coast Path, passes near the cottage and provides scenic coastal walks with views across the water. Heading eastward leads to Lee-on-the-Solent, while westward trails lead to Meon Shore and the picturesque River Hamble estuary.  
  
Local attractions abound, with numerous sites of historical and cultural interest. A few minutes walk takes guests to a cosy pub, with additional restaurants, cafes, and takeaways nearby. For a deeper dive into the area’s rich maritime history, the Hovercraft Museum, Titchfield Abbey, and Portchester Castle are all close by. In nearby Gosport, explore the naval history further with a visit to the Submarine Museum, followed by a ferry ride to Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard, home to iconic ships like HMS Victory and The Mary Rose.  
  
Baytree Cottage serves as an excellent base for day trips to the Isle of Wight, accessible by hovercraft from Southsea. Other local highlights include Gunwharf Quays for shopping and dining, and the stunning Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s former residence, visible from Hill Head. The surrounding Hampshire area also offers attractions such as the New Forest and Winchester, making Baytree Cottage an inviting retreat with access to endless explorations along the South Coast.
