Base Camp is a 2 miles up a windy gravel road. In the winter the road is covered in snow and ice. The road is plowed, although you will need to be prepared with an adequate vehicle. \~ If traveling with a little one, we have you covered! We have a Pack-n-Play, baby gate, baby bathtub, bouncer, high chair, and sound baby monitor for your use. \~ Don't worry, we didn't forget about your fur baby. Dogs are welcome for an additional $100 pet fee (2 dog limit). This is put toward the extra time it takes our cleaner to get all hairs and messes even the most clean, well-behaved dogs leave, along with the longer term care we need to keep our house immaculate! A dog bed, food/water bowls, baggies and some dog toys are provided for your convenience. \~ We are in rural Colorado, and while having the highest speed internet choice, it could be spotty at times. \~ No AC - but thankfully you're in the Rocky Mountains! Open the windows and turn on the ceiling fan and we promise you won't be thinking about AC! You'll likely want a sweatshirt and blanket at night, even in the middle of summer. \~ Our cabin sits at 11,000 ft in elevation. Although most people are not effected, some may feel the effects of the altitude. Drink plenty of water, utilize the humidifiers, and take it easy. \~ Due to county fire bans and STR ordinances, outdoor open fires are prohibited. We found this cabin to be the perfect place to take in fresh mountain air and enjoy the views. My kids loved the arcade games and the hot tub. The chalet is very clean and literally has everything you need. My 9 year old son loved the arcade and hot tub, dogs loved exploring around the property, and my husband and I were able to sit back and relax. Perfect floor plan and amenities. You felt like you were out in the wilderness with no one around. The 2-3 mile drive down the dirt/snowy road was amazing. We enjoyed our stay a lot! The cabin is tucked in the mountains just outside of Fairplay and close to restaurants and grocery shopping in town. Breckenridge is only about 40 mins away. Since the cabin is in the mountains up, you do need a vehicle with good tires - the roads were icy and snow packed during our December stay. We did use our chains once after a snow shower for more traction on the county roads leading up to the cabin - the hosts have chains in the garage if you didn't bring any. Most days, however, we were able to get up the mountain just fine with the AWD and snow tires. The kitchen is stocked with plenty of dishes and utensils. There is also plenty of paper goods and shampoo/soap. The children enjoyed playing with the snow toys. Having access to the garage was a huge plus - it kept the ice and snow off of our vehicle. Cabin was perfect we had 3 adults and 3 kids ages 7-16\. This cabin has everything you needed, was clean and in a beautiful setting. Patios, hot tub and grill outside were great for the adults and the kids loved the arcade games. Great weekend away, the town is about 15-20 mins away bring your snacks with you. The hot tub was amazing, large enough to fit 6 people, and you can't beat the views overlooking the valley! Aug 5, 2020 Liked: Check-in, location, listing accuracy #### Good location The location of the property is great for hiking. Overall the house is comfortable but we were disappointed by a few things. Upon arrival we found pieces of dog biscuits on the carpeted stairs, we then noted the entire first floor had not been vacuumed. Due to current health concerns I wiped down some of the wood furniture, and the wipe I was using removed quite a bit of dirt. It was suggested that we use humidifiers for our comfort. I opened them up before use, and found what appeared to be built up dirt or mold. We contacted the owner to let her know that the Keurig was broken and the regular drip coffee maker was so dirty inside that I did not want to use it. Her reply was to use the French Press that was there. I bought 50 K cups with me because the listing stated that there was a Keurig to use. She texted the next day and asked if we used the French Press, I explained to her that we found the problem with the Keurig and we were manually poking holes in the bottom of the pods with a skewer. She never supplied a new Keurig. We also told her the water in the hot tub was cloudy and foamy. Anna said she would possibly send someone out. We were told the next day that someone did come out and the foam in the water was acceptable. We used it once more and found that the blower had been shut off, thus there was a bit less foam. Strange but convenient remedy to a problem. If you google "hot tub foam' it is due to water being old and full of solutes. We did manage to enjoy our stay, but I was disappointed in the upkeep of the property and the lack of corrective action to the problems that we found.
