Created for a 19th-century international exhibition, this park is now a tranquil setting with an art museum, spacious grounds and an open theater.

Exposition Park is a 19th-century park that was created for the Lima International Exhibition. It contains the Exhibition Palace, which is currently the home of the Museum of Art of Lima. The park has a large lake and a theater where live concerts take place. The area is very lively with performers, vendors and many travelers and locals enjoying its facilities. It is an ideal spot to watch the people of Lima and get an understanding of the city’s ambience.

Attend a live concert or a play in the park’s amphitheater. There is a large stand with seating. Make the most of a sunny day with a family picnic on a grassy knoll. Relax in the sun and read a book. Play sports with the kids in the spacious grounds. Take them to the play areas. Get your hair wet around the water fountains.

Make your way to the Exhibition Palace to see which art exhibits are on display. The palace is made from steel and has a majestic façade of neo-renaissance design. It has been used for many purposes over the years but, since 1957, it has been the home of the Museum of Art of Lima. Take photos of the grandiose structure. Peruse the permanent and temporary exhibitions showcasing Peruvian art. There is a small entrance fee with discounts for children.

Visit the buildings of the Byzantine Pavillion, a charming domed-structure, and the Moorish Pavillion, with its innovative, winding staircase. See the pair of structures decorated in romantic lighting at night. Buy snacks from food stands around the large park. Get some fish food to feed large goldfish. The park hosts wildlife, such as peacocks. It is also a popular meeting point for couples and friends. It was originally constructed to host the Lima International Exhibition in 1872.

Exposition Park is just south of the center of the city. Take a bus to the CIVA or Flores bus stops next to one of the park’s entrances. There are many hotels in the area. Nearby attractions include the Plaza Grau and the Juana Larco de Dammert Park. Nextdoor to the park is the National Stadium, which has a seating capacity of 40,000 and is used for the Peru national soccer team as well as many other events. The park is a 1.9-mile (3-kilometer) taxi journey from Plaza Mayor in the historic center of Lima.
