The Homestead Evanston

"A charming and historic inn"
This was our first time staying here. It's close to Northwestern and Evanston shops. The hotel has an "old-world" charm that reminded me of Europe. Our room was clean and comfortable and the staff was excellent. Some areas could use some updating, but it is an older inn. With the continental breakfast and parking included, we found it to be a much better value than some of the local chain hotels.

" A day away -10° weather "
When my kids want to go swimming and Wisconsin Dells is out of reach this is where I take them in the dead of winter. I booked this room because I know they have a fantastic swimming pool and hot tub. We couldn't have picked a better day to go, as you know Chicago weather can be pretty brutal. On this day it was no exception. Thankfully this hotel is well-built. With the weather outside falling to -10° We swim like dolphins without any notice or care of what is going on outside our windows. This is not just a winter hotel retreat ....! If you come here in the summer there is an amazing horse trail\trail one can walk, bike or run for miles along a dense forest filled with creeks, wild life and scenic areas. All this just 1/2 mile west of the hotel. I'd give this hotel five stars for a fantastic stay. Oh wait, did I mention the hot FREE breakfast? ...I guess not you'll just have to go and check it out yourself. Thanks Hampton Inn suites, Skokie !

Rodeway Inn

"Absolutely great value!"
I went to Chicago to see a show at The Riviera Theatre and got this hotel for an extremely low price. My cousin and I were skeptical the entire time thinking it was to good to be true. But from the moment we got there all of the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They let us check in early, and the beds were super comfortable. There were some questionable towels and a slightly stained pillowcase, but everything else was great. It was not a super nice neighborhood but certainly not dangerous and had lots of food options nearby. I would stay here again, but would bring my own towel.

"Prob a 4-star"
Booked for NY Eve as an intermediate "landing spot" rather than staying downtown or driving home to Milwaukee. I've stayed at the nearby Hampton Inn, and this Residence Inn is a MUCH better experience and at slightly better pricing.

"Nice, comfy hotel close to Northwestern University"
Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Hilton Orrington. It's very centrally located near all the restaurants and shops of beautiful Evanston. For families wanting to visit Northwestern University it is the best hotel in the area. We walked to Northwestern in 28 degree weather and it was less than a mile walk.

You’ll see a different side of the Windy City when you visit Skokie and Evanston.

Go east through Evanston to find Gillson Park, which overlooks Lake Michigan. There you’ll find a variety of beach and water activities, like swimming, building sandcastles, volleyball, and waterskiing. Wind south down the coastline to visit Lighthouse Beach, which features Grosse Point Lighthouse, built in 1873. The lighthouse is fully automated, but you can take a tour of the old structure and learn about the lives of its former keepers, and the many shipwrecks they prevented.

After a quiet trip to the seashore, head inland into Skokie and explore its Northshore Sculpture Park. There, you can wind through 3 km of various sculptures, including horses, trees, and everything in between. All this quiet beauty might leave you ready for some live entertainment, so take in a show at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts. This hot spot is teeming with locals, and you’ll get a real impression of Skokie and its inhabitants. If you’re visiting in May, you can’t miss the Skokie Festival of Cultures, a free event where you can tour dozens of different cultures via food, dance, games, and shopping.

After a long day of play in the suburbs, head back to your hotel in Evanston, Illinois, or in Skokie. Use the hotel’s Wi-Fi to figure out your itinerary for the next day, and to check in with the folks back home. If you’re staying at one of the local bed and breakfasts, you might have a special treat waiting for you in the form of a roaring fireplace and a delicious breakfast with your fellow travellers.
