Was not meet with a staff that was willing to work with you. Was an hour early for check in and left carrying my own bag out to the car , wasn't offered to store luggage while the time ticked away to check in time.

If you like thin spring mattresses that’s for you
One of the worst sleeps I had in my life time. Those Mattresses are like a youth hotel thin spring mattresses where you able to feel the spring in all parts of the body. The stuff try to be helpful and switch the room, however same condition on the other room. The Hotel is clean and for this town the best.

Bad beds and laundry service
The beds are very firm, so keep that in mind if you prefer softer beds. It prevented me from getting good sleep. Their laundry service was a day late in returning my clothes and I received no discount or even an apology. If that was my last day at the hotel I would have lost my clothing.

A very nice hotel, very comfortable bed in fact one of the best I’ve stayed in. The hotel was clean and the food was very nice. Breakfast had lots of options.

Staying next to the "arena auf schalke"
I frequently travel from New York City to Gelsenkirchen, to visit family. This hotel did not exist when I grew up in this city, and what a great addition it is. Simply no other hotel in Gelsenkirchen compares in terms of quality and comfort of rooms, cleanliness, service, and really interesting location, next to the arena where Bundesliga club Schalke practices and plays. Wonderful value!

A great place to explore the rhur
very pleasant hotel in a beautiful area, the breakfast is excellent and a well appointed gym with views over the football training grounds,the hotel is one of the quietest I’ve stayed in anywhere and I’ve stayed in plenty,all the staff are superb very helpful and speak English if needed,the views are wonderful for such a flat area especially in autumn when we visited, all in all a very good hotel and one of the best 4 star hotels I’ve stayed in when in Germany if my wife liked it then it’s a must to stay in and she loved it ,I would throughly recommend this hotel

Perfectly fine
Great location in terms to close to the football stadium. I would recommend the hotel. Good restaurant for evening and breakfast, room was suffice and there was a gym on the top floor.

Nice European Hotel with Western appeal
Having stayed in this hotel for many years, this new 2016 year for this hotel was as usual other than the Olive restaurant which was not impressive as I remember it. Restaurant is pretty much the only complaint I could make as I saw degradation in it's quality and service. First day I only got olive oil and bread, next I got none, next I got olives and olive oil with bread, etc. Restaurant staff was not consistent in it's service, which is a lot to say for a place that was truly great. Water bottle in room was never replaced, I had to get my own in store downstairs. Small things really but shows inconsistency which was NEVER there before for at least 3-4 years I stayed in this hotel. Staff was very pleasant and accommodating, and facilities cater to western style of expectations so it's not really culture shock like you could have if you come from North America into Europe. Rooms are clean. Faucets didn't drain fast enough so water would gather. They had fire in kitchen at 6am in morning so hotel evacuated and everything was handled properly. As food critic I can say for sure, food in restaurant was really only problem. It gave off vibe being frozen, not fresh, over compensated with spices, very oily, elements on plate did not vibe well together at all. At some points to utter disgust, as beat slices on side ware almost raw, hard, tasteless, with sitting in fridge for long time after taste, and propane or gas burn tastes... unfortunately it's only restaurant.

The hotel is billed as 4 star however it is tired looking from the outside and the annoying thing was there were no coffee and kettle or complimentary bottled water in the room. Small gym and sauna/steam room/solarium on top floor. Breakfast was plentiful however fruit juice was concentrated, not fresh juice. Pretty average down the line.

OK - but no AC
Generally was OK - just Air Condition wasn't working properly - when I mentioned that at the reception desk - the guy said - 'ah cos your room is from the sunny way' what ? it was just too worm there. Another think: we had to pay 4,50EUR for Internet access cos the free one was very slow - so if you want a faster one you have to pay 4.50 for a day :(

Great hospitality.
Very well presented hotel. Warm, welcoming staff who spoke good English. Although we arrived 20min before the restaurant closed, they never rushed us and even stayed open to serve us dessert. We could not have been better looked after.

Attentive Staff
The hotel and room were spotlessly clean and the staff were welcoming,helpful and friendly. It is an ideal location for events at the Veltins Arena. The Olive Restaurant had a good menu and the service was excellent. My one reason for not giving the hotel an overall rating of five was that the Bar Food menu was not available on the days when an event was taking place at the arena which I feel is not really acceptable and was not part of the information either on the website on when we checked in.

Pleasant staff, both smoking and non-smoking rooms, one converter for laptop from 220v to 110v in room helped, Internet service good (might have issues getting phone or multiple devices online), seemed clean, no complaints, up to North American standard, breakfast choices and taste of food excellent, would prefer mini fridge in room.

Outstanding Service and Comfort!
I must say, out of all the hotels I've stayed at in Europe so far, this is one of the best (almost American-like). I stayed with my son for a convention in Essen (about 20 minutes away). We were very impressed with the comfort, service, and quality of everything at this hotel. The room was exceptionally clean and had air-conditioning. Plenty of room for a small family (2-4 people). The hotel staff spoke very good English and were very helpful. The bar served a huge selection of beer, mixed drinks, and had a grill which had some pretty good "American-Like" food. One thing to note, these is a large football/soccer stadium next door (about 150 yards away) so we were a little surprised to be overwhelmed by thousands of soccer fans on the day of our departure. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this hotel for anyone visiting this part of Germany or Europe.

Very nice hotel for a very good price
There was plenty of parking. The hotel staff were very friendly and spoke excellent English. The room was very comfortable and clean. The breakfast buffet was outstanding. An added bonus was that the hotel turned out to be a 5-minute walk from the nearest tram stop, so I was able to leave my car at the hotel and not try to worry about finding parking downtown.
