Well, your search is over now that you have found the Cardinal's Nest, one of our popular log cabin rentals right on North Carolina's Cranberry Creek! Be it summer fun with bike riding, river tubing, canoeing, kayaking, horseback riding or winter fun in the game room with a ping pong table, large flat screen HDTV, this home truly provides fun and enjoyment no matter the season. The Cardinal's Nest has four bedrooms, one with a King and two with extra-long full-size beds and the fourth bedroom has two twin size beds. Also, downstairs is a sleeper sofa (queen size). This cozy home will complete your one-of-a-kind mountain stay. Cardinals Nest is located less than thirty minutes to Beech Mountain Ski, and Sugar Mountain ski resort and Hawksnest Tubing & Zipline are both fifteen minutes away. The Town of Banner Elk is just ten minutes up the road for world-class shopping and dining. Sleeping Accommodations Main Level: Bedroom with King Upper Level: Two bedrooms, one with an XL Full and another with two Twins Lower Level: Bedroom with an XL Full, Pull-out Queen Sofa Additional Notes: \- CANCELLATION POLICY - Bookings canceled 60+ days before arrival will receive a refund of the deposit. Bookings canceled between 31-59 days before arrival will receive a refund of half of the deposit. Bookings canceled within 30 days of arrival are not entitled to a refund unless the reservation dates are rebooked to another guest. All bookings are subject to a $50 cancellation fee. \- Firewood may be purchased at the time of booking or with a week's notice. There are enough of these items for one night, or maybe two. We do not provide hair dryers. The A/C did not work. There were several lights that did not work. One important one was where you entered the property. It was at the back of the house and it was REALLY dark. We wanted fresh cool air, open windows and the sound of a babbling brook to relax to. What we got was a cabin with alot of religious overtones and completely inaccessible area of water that has signs for no fishing. Not sure where they want you to kayak or tube like they say in the description. The water is not for any of that. Then when you add the incredibly loud highway right at the base of the house, it was terrible. Non stop truckers, weekend cars squealing their tires, just continuous noise. So much so we couldn’t even enjoy the outside patio or rocking chairs or leave any windows open. We did bring this to the attention of the rental company ASAP and moved. It’s unfortunate that the rental company did not help us in getting a partial refund for false advertising and yet we used them to find our second property. The owners should be notified that they need to redo their listing to accurately describe the cabin. ##### Jackie F. Both thermostats were set to 71 but the temperature on the main floor was 80\. Called the property managers about the issue at 9:30am the next morning. They were very kind, caring & attentive on the phone. Customer service person showed up at 4:59 that afternoon. Not an HVAC person. A customer service person. He was kind and caring and nice but he could only theorize about what the problem was and was not equipped to attempt to fix it. His parting words were "I hope it doesn't get hot again tonight." It was a very warm February so we opened doors / windows to cool the house off. Amazingly, doing so worked pretty well for the rest of our stay. We loved the property and felt very good about 95% of it. We would rate the property itself as very good. If we could be assured that future renters would not have the same HVAC issue we had, we would rate it even higher. Since future renters may make their decision based on our experience, we cannot. In summary - Beautiful home. Pretty well equipped. Kitchen needs more pots/pans/baking sheets/kitchen tools. Basement TV never worked. We couldn't even find the remote for it but it wasn't that big of a deal because we loved talking, hanging out & playing ping pong. Excellent gas grill. Comfortable furniture & beds. Well done bathrooms. Hard to figure out how to lock the doors but pretty easy once you see the small sticker on the edge of the door. ##### Pat W. The house is beautiful and well maintained. Our party of 10 (five adults, and five kids ages 6-12) slept comfortably and there was plenty of room for everyone to spread out. The kitchen was well-stocked with sufficient pots, pans, utensils, etc. for making meals for a large group. Easy access to Beech Mountain, Sugar Mountain, and Hawks Nest. Otherwise, the cabin were perfect. Plenty of pillows and blankets for all. They had a keurig and coffee pot which was great. WiFi was spotty but worked when needed. However, it was not completely as described. That’s the expensive gamble you take when renting based on the description and 3 reviews. Checks & balances should be performed prior to a rental stay & after. The description would have you to believe the fire pit is close by on the actual property, not down the hill by the creek with no usable sitting available. There are 2 picnic tables that should have been discards a very long time ago. Unfortunately, I’m not able to upload images, otherwise I would. The creek was the most enjoyable aspect of renting this cabin though. Instructed to load & run the dishwasher before leaving. When cooking for 7, the dishwasher isn’t big enough to accommodate all of the items used. Also, there were dishes that were neatly put away that we had to rewash, because of residue from previous visits. Why the cleanup fee? The bedding on two beds weren’t clean and although management offered to bring new pillowcases, that’s were checks and balances comes into play. So why the cleanup fee? The Dish Satellite services didn’t work and would have been extremely helpful to the kids to watch and relax after eventful days. A nice maintenance personnel came out on the first night of our stay to attempt to fix the problem and was there more than 2 hours without success. A Dish tech had to come out the next day to move the satellite because of overgrown trees blocking the signal. The maintenance personnel offered to come back the next day so we wouldn’t have to wait around, but when I called him he was occupied with another job. So my family decided to stay until the Dish tech was finished. Again, ground maintenance and checks and balances. Why the admin fee? We were instructed to discard all garbage to the outside bin that is suppose to have an added locking mechanism to prevent animals from opening. After eating breakfast and preparing to “cleanup”, we collect all garbage to take outside only to find the added locking mechanism doesn’t work. Not sure how long the garbage that was in the outside bin had been there, but it was sprawled everywhere to include going up the mountain. Again, have pictures. We picked up all of the garbage, to prevent being accused. Why the admin fee? The cabin was ok, but not well built.
