Close to Saville center.

Posted 14-May-2016
It's close to Saville centre & short walk to the train (don't plan on putting the centre on your GPS, neither the tittle nor the address show up! Just use University of Alberta South Campus, it's a few kilometers from the main so don't forget the south part. The train stops right outside the venue which is a good option as the parking is very limited for such a large venue). It's a very dark hotel, our junior suite room window was interior, opened overlooking the lounge, no natural light at all. It was the strangest suite I've ever stayed in, 2 beds separated by a hallway and bathroom, tv in one room only and no common area seating at all. The hotel doesn't seem to manage foot traffic from the street at all, everyday at least 3 take out menus were stuffed into the door, many people just threw them out into the hallway or let them drop on the floor when they opened the door making it appear untidy while entering. Of course the hotel doesn't mention the train tracks directly behind the building, if you don't sleep well this probably isn't the place for you! And that was from the opposite side of the building, I can't imagine the noise from the side closest to the tracks. The Internet connection was terrible and intermittent so don't plan to work from your room. I wouldn't stay here again, there are a number of hotels just down the street.

Trains

Not up to date rooms. Front entrance looks amazing though. Trains went by all night. They are right in the back.

I had a really great stay. The hotel staff was excellent and very helpful. The room was clean and nice. It was also a great location to where I need to be in the morning, which made my commute really easy in the morning. Also the food in the restaurant was delicious, I got to enjoy a nice quite meal.

Well-located in the South

Posted 16-Apr-2016
Cons: The parking lot is tight - got into a fender-bender. Do not park in the angled spots facing Gateway at the north end.
Location: Whitemud and Gateway - very easy to get in and out of.
Very comfortable suite, absolutely no complaints. Was concerned about the train noise that I could here in the evening, but it didn't wake me up at all during the night.

Dependable as always..

I have stayed here a few times and it always the same. I wouldn't say they knock it out of the park but VFM is good in this market. They only thing missing is a pool or hottub. The hotel is geared toward professionals who value internet and a good bar over family type amenities. Over a good choice.
