It’s in a great location. The gardens in the back are gorgeous with great views of the river valley. Unfortunately, the quality of the food and the service in the Harvest Room have slipped from what they once were. This is disappointing because I always looked forward to coming here. The room we stayed in was decent. It wasn’t thoroughly cleaned (empty wine bottle in the room). While the charm of this hotel is that it’s old and historical, that shouldn’t be a reason for some of the finishings in the room to be poor. For example, caulking around a shower/tub isn’t a 100-year old light fixture - it’s expected to be replaced. Also, the trim above the shower was coming apart and made it look like the rooms were not being repaired. These are a few example and they just did not fit with what would be expected from a hotel like this one. We come to this hotel knowing that we’re going to spend a lot of money, but we will have a great experience. It appears that is no longer the case; it’s still expensive, however.
