The staff at the hotel were all lovely. Unfortunately the pool,spa area was being refurbished so we were unable to use. The hotel was very clean the foyer area was nice and relaxing, breakfast was nice. Great views over Arthur seat and well situated for Holyrood Palace,Dynamic Earth and parliament building.

I booked the Holyrood Hotel in Edinburgh through the expedia site. The main reason I chose this hotel was because it had a spa and swimming pool. When we got there we were informed that there are refurbishment works ongoing and that the spa, swimming pool and leisure facilities could not be used throughout the duration of my stay. This was not stated on the expedia site. Not only that, the noise disturbance since 8am every morning until 5pm every evening was terrible. The workmen were refurbishing bedrooms on the floor above. There was a skip outside my bedroom window that the old furniture etc was being thrown into from the floor above, again this was very noisy. The workmen also parked at the back outside the window. I booked a king room and instead of a king size bed it was 2 single beds pushed together, it was very uncomfortable. I stayed for 5 nights to get away for some rest from a busy home and work life and i got very little sleep due to the mattress and the noise both inside and out the hotel. I will not be staying here again nor will I be booking through Expedia again.

Nice enough hotel but the room was cold, heating didn’t work. Its a little run down and needs renovation. They had some renovation works ongoing whilst I stayed so I suspect it will be very nice once the works are completed.

Hogmany trip
Arrived early on new year's eve. Greeted at reception with a smile and a welcome glass of prosecco. Swiftly taken to our room by Mike who was very helpful by carrying our bags and giving handy advice for our evening ahead and told us to ring and ask for him if we needed anything for the room. The room had everything we needed, spacious with a partial vue of Arthur's seat. Had a swim and sauna downstairs in the spa. The gym looked well equiped from what we could see. The hotel provided some lovely hot traditional Scottish food (Stovies) on our return after the celebrations, which was very much needed. We had a lovely chat with one of the supervisors in the bar on new years day, who was so nice and made some delicious cocktails. Breakfast buffet was delicious. Hotel is in a great position. About 15 minutes walk to the castle. We parked at the NCP just a little up the road, though dynamic earth would be handy as nearer. All the staff were very friendly and we would stay again,

A wet December trip
A wet December, the staff were all friendly, professional and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Bed and bedding were exceptional - so comfortable. The room was spotlessly clean. Staff in the spa were also professional, friendly and efficient - really positive experience. Buffet breakfast meant the mushrooms, scrambled egg etc were underwhelming, sitting too long. Freshly cooked poached eggs were superb. Some of the fittings, walls, woodwork are showing some wear and tear.

Nice rooms, more easy to control the room temperature for comfort, no old dingy bath tubs, modern showers, easy and very close by for any turist attraction in Edinburgh. Cant find any fault. Will definitely come back

Could do better
Although the hotel is obviously going through a renovation, the room we had which was classed as a Junior Suite was extremely tired and in no way should be designated as a Suite in comparison to other hotels. Extremely cold thereby having to rely on a stand alone Heater to keep the room warm. Loose wires protruding from walls, lack of power points, threadbare carpets and chair coverings etc. For a hotel not to have a fridge within a Suite is in no way catering for the modern day traveler. On the plus side, staff were helpful and friendly and breakfast was good. Would love to return but only in the knowledge that all rooms were of a suitable standard.

King size bed is 2 beds pushed together, not the most comfortable of experiences. Shower leaked all over the floor. Stray hairs in the bathroom upon arrival. Not to the bestvstandards of cleanliness. Good points, clean towels every day and staff were very friendly and helpful.

The room was lovely and spacious, the bar area very nice. Was let down by buildings works within the hotel that started before 9am so we were rudely awakened by drilling and knocking. Raised this to the receptionist who apologised and said it would be raised to the manager. A lot of money spent on a room to be woken up by a lot of noise. Not very impressed.

New owners- still an excellent experience!
We have stayed at this hotel several times when it was a MacDonald hotel and have always found it excellent. They are in the process of updating the hotel and have removed most of the tartan furnishings! Our room had a very fresh and modern look and was v clean. Staff as usual were very efficient and friendly, and the leisure club is exceptional! The gym facilities are particularly good The only issue was the heating thermostat in our room didn't seem to be working - was a bit cool during a wintry spell. We reported this but hotel didn't manage to fix it. I think this was just teething problem due to recent renovations.

Great hotel with helpful staff
Had a lovely experience at the hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly the concierge. We were upgraded to one of the newly refurbished rooms which were lovely but quite sparse as far as furniture goes but this was explained to us. It didn’t impact on our trip. There wasn’t parking at the hotel but there is the use of car park very close by which a discount was applied at. Good breakfast with a choice of hot and continental options.
