"Lives up to the wonderful reputation"
My Girlfriend and I decided to plan our first trip away for our birthdays and we settled on our favourite city, Edinburgh, staying at The Balmoral Hotel. Our welcome was wonderful. I had previously mentioned we was traveling to Edinburgh as it was the week of our birthdays. Not only was we upgraded, but we was greeted with a plate of macarons with the words 'Happy Birthday' written. A card from the manager was handwritted, wishing us a great birthday week and a pleasant stay. The house keeping was great, The view was great, The facilities was wonderful, and the staff was so helpful. I was so impressed. I'd most certainly recommend this hotel and it was beyond what I was expecting.

Immediate and friendly welcome from extremely helpful staff.Checking in was quick and painless. The room was fresh, clean and comfortable although a little smaller than expected. The bathroom was clean and tidy, no bath but lovely double shower and everything else you need. The bar was welcoming and the service was excellent. Great location, easy walking distance from everything and always a hearty welcome when you returned.

"A conundrum."
A warm welcome from Gavin into a very warm hotel. The overall temperature was far higher than necessary and our bedroom was stifling - for some reason the thermostats were on maximum? That said it is a most relaxing environment and run very professionally with very unobtrusive service. The rooms are spotless and, apart from the lack of in room tea/coffee making facilities, nearly everything has been thought of and provided. Overall the Hotel exudes an air of tranquility. To us the puzzle was the food - having the name Roux associated to it we expected a much more exciting and interesting dinner menu. The menu had a very limited choice and although the meal was well presented it lacked that 'little something' to make it stand out - slightly disappointing. The breakfast offering was poor with a very limited range of fruit - a few very large poached pears, a bowl of prunes and some apricots in juice appeared to be the extent of it. The cooked element was poor with a huge sausage and a 'fried' egg looking as though it had been left warming for ages rather than being freshly fried! The servers are very attentive although keep a discreet distance, which is a big plus point throughout the Hotel.

"Good location for shopping experience "
On first impression the junior suite room was 'wow'. On closer inspection the toilet roll holder and also the sink was coming away from the wall. The air con in bathroom had very thick dust sitting in it. There was nowhere to put a towel in the toilet. The wardrobe door was very difficult to open and caught on the drawer. The dressing gowns provided were extremely small and rough in texture. These were only small niggles though. The main problem we had was with the very slippery wooden flooring throughout. Having mobility issues made this quiet dangerous as I slipped several times jarring my back, which ruined my stay. My husband also had huge issues with the slippery flooring too. Room service was utilised twice for breakfast and on both occasions items were missed off and had to be reordered. Only ate breakfast downstairs in the bar area once as we found the staff to be quite unfriendly and unhelpful. On the plus side the reception Staff were excellent, very friendly, helpful and efficient. Unfortunately I would not be able to recommend this hotel and would not return, due to reasons given
