"Walk on "
The stay at Vista Inn was so very pleasant and relaxing. Staff and accommodations were very homey and made me feel very comfortable. If I had to make any suggestions, I would have preferred a larger bed. I'm not sure if ours was double or queen, but I'd say a double. But I highly recommend any hotel/inn provide nothing smaller than a queen for double occupancy couples. It was a lovely stay. I would very likely rebook this Inn upon a visit to the Riverwalk in the future. The Riverwalk area has much to offer and we took in as much as week could in the 3 days we were there. We saw a play at the Majestic; ate at two very nice restaurants; saw the Alamo, the Cathedral, road on the riverboat tour, river taxied out to the art museum in Pearl-great trip.

"Beautiful Historic Hotel"
The Crockett is a beautiful historic hotel that is right behind the Alamo. It's a short walk to the river walk. The mall is just across the street-- we walked everywhere. I booked the Cozy Queen because I was traveling alone. The cozy is about the size of a dorm room-- roughly 12x12 plus the bathroom. It was clean and comfortable. My friends booked a King, and their room was huge... so read the room descriptions when booking. The staff were fantastic and helpful. The breakfast was really good for a hotel free breakfast. The Texas shaped waffles were a cute touch. The bar serves food and opens at 4-- it's cute and the bartenders were helpful to tourists. The building is beautiful and has so much character! The elevators are small-- it is an old building, but a family can easily fit with luggage. The pool is outdoors but you are allowed to use the amenities at the hotel across the street, which also has a fitness room. The Crockett was about $500 cheaper than the Marriott for my 4 night stay and I don't think that I would have been any more comfortable there. I would recommend the Crockett to anyone and would stay there again.

"What a history"
Mengler hotel is located directly across the street to the Alamo. It is also conveniently located to one of the many entrances to the riverwalk. The rooms were large, clean and comfortable. The outside interior garden was peaceful and restful. The bar is dark, but loaded with the history of Teddy Roosevelt recruitment of his Rough Riders. It is also haunted but we had no unexpected visitor. The staff were extremely helpful especially Doreen Sanders and Angels Pena.

Pocket Guide: Downtown - Riverwalk, Alamo Plaza Historic Hotels

The languid San Antonio River and its famed River Walk connect many downtown attractions, including the Alamo Plaza and HemisFair Park. Built for the 1968 World’s Fair, HemisFair Park is the site of the 750-foot Tower of the Americas. Visitors, though, won’t forget the Alamo, site of the legendary 1836 battle between Mexican soldiers and Texan secessionists. Nearby, Mexican goods fill El Mercado.
