"First hotel to actually deliver everything promise"
Travelling to unfamiliar surroundings normally makes us consider a hotel chain we are familiar with but with Dubai having so many 4 and 5 star hotels I took the opportunity to break from the norm and try a different type of hotel.
The Shangri-La is both welcoming and very high quality. Well proportioned on 42 floors it offers all the amenities you would expect from a 5 star hotel. From the doorman to the front desk team, concierge, restaurant staff and even the staff preparing rooms you are treated with pleasant courteousness. You are made to feel at home with nothing being too much trouble.
The same goes for the airport staff, the exhibition staff( I was taking part in an exhibition in Dubai) and even the taxi drivers.
My only issue in Dubai outside our hotel was the lack of Wi-Fi. There is limited wifi at Dubai International Airport and likewise at the World Trade Centre Exhibition Centre. You have the option to pay for wifi or buy a 4G local sim. Personally living in a town in Ireland of less than 20000 people where there is free wifi provided by the town council in the town centre it is difficult to understand why this is not free in Dubai.
That aside we also took the opportunity to go on the desert safari which was a great experience with a thrilling race across the sand dunes in Toyota land cruisers before a short ride on camels, excellent food in a desert camp and fantastic belly dancing. The entertainment came as much from our fellow passengers as the dancers!
The hotel is everything expected and more , fantastic service from the first minute we arrived at the hotel , the concierge , the receptionist & the room service were excellent . Special mention of Mr Ram that was head of House keeping who personally made the stay exceptional. The spa a must for ladies .
Recommended to those who want to be pampered and get real value for their money .
Covering 2-square km, Downtown Dubai is set between Sheikh Zayed Road and Business Bay with Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, as its centerpiece. Dubai Fountain, the world's largest fountain, performs intricately choreographed shows complete with light and music. Nearby, the Dubai Mall offers an expansive aquarium, ice rink, and shopping.
