It's a place to stroll home to after beautiful days of swimming and beachcombing, light the grill on the deck out back, and spend your evenings relaxing in fragrant ocean air. This cottage sits half a mile south of downtown Old Orchard Beach, well within walking distance of the Old Orchard Pier, Palace Playland, the Amtrak station, and all sorts of shops and eateries. Yet it's also just removed enough to be relaxing and quiet - where you can unwind in a recliner on the glassed-in front porch, glimpsing the Atlantic Ocean at the end of the road. Walk home from the beach to find a living space that's cool, breezy, and full of sunlight (with window AC in the living room and bedrooms). As fresh local seafood sizzles on the gas grill out back, get started on your favorite side dishes in the well-equipped kitchen and set the windowside dining table for dinner. In the evenings, you can watch your favorite movies on cable or streaming, use the high-speed WiFi to check tomorrow's surf report, and leave the day's swimsuits and towels to spin in the washer/dryer downstairs. The front porch was great as a second living area so the kids could play in one room and adults could read or talk in the other. Our only concern would be the front porch had nails that stick out of the wall and an exposed outlet. It wasn’t that troublesome because our kids are old enough to stay away from them, but if you have any children under 4, I would think twice before renting or using this area with them. Also, the bathroom had no functioning light. There was a note left on the whiteboard letting us know when we arrived. A battery source of light (flashlight, lantern) would have been nice to have. We had to leave the door open or use the bathroom in the dark at night. The location is great! Short walk to all the boardwalk activities and far enough away that it was quiet and relaxing. The kitchen and dining room areas were very spacious and made it easy to cook, make drinks and play cards with 7 adults, a baby and a large dog! We had dishes and pots to make all we needed. The grill was all ready to go, but we ran out of time to use it. We even had access to a brand new washer/dryer in the basement with laundry soap for a quick load. The home was very clean, warm and cozy. The 3 couches and beds were very comfy. We spent our downtime reading and chatting on the sun porch. During the day, the sun made it toasty warm (we visited in April). at night we put on the decorative Christmas lights and throw blankets for a relaxing wind down before bed. We loved our walks to the beach. Our large senior dog was relaxed with his bed in the living room where he could keep an eye on everyone. The added bonus for him was the small fenced in backyard. He was able to sun himself on the deck and take his time on potty breaks. We absolutely loved this little place and highly recommend it. It felt like being at home! Mar 29, 2024 #### Small old cottage away from the ocean I had a good time despite that I was expecting a better place. The cottage is a few blocks from the ocean by car but in a good neighborhood. I was disappointed not to have a closet to hang up my clothes or some furniture where to put my luggage. I had to leave them on the floor. One of the rooms had an empty opening which could potentially be a closet with no door and a rail to hang up my clothes. Also, the entrance to the room was uneven which could cause an accident. I was not happy about the basement not having a lock. I think the place needs some more TLC before being rented again. On top of that, we were a family of four who stayed for four days and we were given only 2 rolls of toilet paper. I had to buy my own. And, the bathtub did not even have a rubber mat so I spent my first day shopping for things for the cottage. Next time I will stay in a hotel. ##### Carolina D. About a 5-6 minute walk to the beach, but beach chairs, umbrella, and a buggy were available. CONS: The house reeked of stale cigarette smoke when we arrived. I am not sure if the previous guest smoked, but the smell was embedded in the curtains and even the walls. The basement was incredibly musty/moldy smelling. I understand about the water table and that basements are musty, but this was really bad. I think it was unhealthy and probably needs to be checked for mold. When we contacted Vacasa about the cigarette smell, an after hours person ( because we got there after 5:00) responded and said we would be contacted first thing in the morning by the local company and they would bring an air purifier or move us and would compensate us bc this was advertised as smoke free. BUT- no one contacted us until 5:30 pm the next day and just left a voicemail saying that they can’t do anything about the smell but we can have 10 percent off our next visit. I tried multiple times to reach Vacasa again, but no response. Why would we want yo stay at another of their properties? Poor responses to issues, for sure. I would not recommend staying here bc I truly think the smell in the basement is unhealthy and it reeks of old cigarette smoke. We left early. The place needs to be thoroughly repainted with KILLZ and all rugs/carpets/curtains thrown away and the basement checked for mold. ##### Stephanie K.
