Detroit Lakes offers a wide variety of events, shopping, parks, concerts, & restaurants that the entire family can enjoy. With some of the best downtown shops in the area & some great coffee shops and bars, it is sure to give you plenty to do, regardless of the weather. On Lake Sallie you can grab a bite to eat at the world famous Hotel Shoreham, or travel just a few miles to restaurants like Longbridge, Zorbaz, Bleachers, Brygge Taps & Tastes, Hub 41, Lakeside Tavern, The Fireside, & Spitfire Bar & Grill. Boating - When you spend your vacation surrounded by water, it only makes sense that you’ll feel like boating! Once on the water, Lake Sallie has nearly 1300 acres of recreational boating & also has a boat access route to Little Detroit Lake through Dunton Locks Park! (boat tram open weekends from Memorial Day to Labor Day) Fishing - Fishing is great throughout the year, so if you do bring your fishing rig, it won’t take you long to find multi-species fishing opportunities. (walleyes, panfish, bass, pike, muskies) You can tie up for the day on Lake Sallie orthere are several other lakes within minutes which offer a similar variety of multi-species fishing. (Rental of a fishing pontoon or guided fishing trips are also available) Golfing - Whether you bring clubs for some serious golf or you just want to play a casual round, you have several golf options! Just around the corner, only a short half-mile away, you have the DL Country Club 18-hole course or their executive course, Lakeview which is their shorter 18-hole course. The fish were biting like crazy off the dock. We caught well over 100 during our stay — nice crappies, largemouth bass and rock bass. My son loved getting to walk the short distance to the dock to fish as much as he wanted to. We rented a boat from in town and Lake Sallie was perfect for tubbing and fishing from the boat. The cottage had everything we needed to cook our meals. Having culligan water was a nice bonus. The bedrooms were on the cozy side. But there was plenty of space in the public areas for our family to gather. The kitchen has a nice size table to play games or do puzzles. We loved to be able to work a little and play a little. It's a nice touch also to have a pontoon available for rent as well. Rented a pontoon from T&C pontoon rentals. They are not on the lake, but delivered it to our dock. Lake is shallow, so keep an eye on your boat motor trim.
