Jewel in the Sand Professionally Managed by Newman-Dailey Jewel in the Sand is not simply a beachfront Destin vacation home- its a venue! A very small percentage of vacation rentals shine as brightly as this eight bedroom mansion. She's always had the right DNA to special- a private pool with a grilling area, lounge chairs and a boardwalk to the beach; open gathering/entertainment areas on each of the four floors; four beachfront balconies and a large reception-ready kitchen hedged by two dining rooms- one with beach views and one for formal dining. Yet now, this gem of a rental sparkles even more brilliantly thanks to recent renovations. Definitely on trend, it exudes a ‘light and bright’ feel marked by glossy modern art, white shiplap walls and stunning grey marble counters throughout. Each space boasts high-end furnishings and coastal modern decor- from the many sitting areas to the individual bedrooms- every nook is welcoming. While several of the en-suite rooms would classify as master suites in any house, the fourth floor master suite is larger than many apartments. It’s bathroom alone has megawatts of 'wow'. Yes, Jewel in the Sand’s attention to detail is obvious in the custom tile finishes, gold hardware and even the refurbished ceilings. Every substantial house needs certain necessities to host large groups and Jewel in the Sand is not lacking. A full laundry room, kitchenettes on multiple floors and flat screen TVS in each room raise the comfort level to new highs. Plus, don’t let its secluded location in The Dunes of Destin or its beachfront location fool you- malls, water parks, golf courses and grocery stores are very close by and a few restaurants are within walking distance. There is a private elevator on site for your use. You must abide the rules in the rental agreement to use the elevator. Included in your total is a fee charged for the use of the elevator. The location is perfect, 4 mins away from a grocery store and close to many main attractions. We are huge AC people, and had no problem staying cold during our stay. The beach area is awesome and right outside the back door. The complimentary beach chairs/umbrellas are a great bonus. We spent many hours in the pool and backyard. The only recommendations I can provide, would be to add more kitchen items to cook/prep with. Along with adding another umbrella outside by the pool area to cover the nice long table. We did not pay summer prices so I feel that we got a good “deal” but if I had I would be pretty upset. There were stains on almost every chair and a few cockroaches inside and out. The house is very large with many bedrooms, a few steps from your private beach and close to restaurants, grocery, and shopping. The first floor is set up odd with the bunk room close to two exits (and almost all other bedrooms on 3rd and 4th floor) so it was not an option for our 5 year olds to be in together. Also, no baby monitors out of 6 would reach between floors or outside to pool. The 2nd floor was actually great with no bedrooms so you didn’t have to worry about waking others early. The kitchen left a lot to be desired. We had to go buy our own pair of scissors, salt/pepper, and paper and plastic bowls as there were only glass. The living room furniture was not comfortable. The 3rd and 4th floor rooms were great. As soon as we arrived we had to move ALL outdoor furniture as it was flipped upside down against the house and had not been moved back for us. They were VERY heavy. We had asked for the pool to be heated on Saturday. Noticed on Monday there had been no change and contacted management who had someone out immediately and it was determined the heater was broken and we got a full refund. Group ranged from 1 year old to 15 year old (6 kids) and 5 couples with the oldest celebrating a 70th birthday. The house was very expensive even though I reserved it almost a year in advance with no option for a refund, only credit. As a result, I had very high expectations. There were minimal supplies so we had to bring all our condiments, paper towels, toilet paper, paper plates, detergent, etc. The A/C could not be turned down below 72 due to freeze up risk. The place was not as clean as I had hoped. There were several roach sightings & brown splatters on the ceiling in the kitchen & den. Toilet on first floor ran constantly unless the handle was shaken. Pantry door was sticky due to so much previous use & needed a paint job. There were 16 bracelets on the counter but no explanation about what they were for. We later learned that they were to be worn on the beach to use the 4 complementary chairs & 2 umbrellas. The elevator was nice to have for the older adults since the house is 4 story. The pool was square & unremarkable, minimal shade around the pool, & the landscaping was overgrown. With all that said, the location was awesome with easy access to the beach as well as downtown and local ice cream shops. We cooked most of the meals at the house with plenty of plates, pans, glasses, etc. Summary: Great location, Very Expensive & needs a deep clean & maintenance. ##### Cindy A. Having a elevator in the home was definitely a plus. Probably would have enjoyed more shade on the pool/deck area but that's minor ##### Sharon P. But to many "bedrooms" downstairs on first floor The downstairs bedrooms have no windows or second exit. Not sure what the code in Florida is, but these can not pass inspection as bedrooms in most states. Practically speaking they are dark and bedding for 16 people is serviced by two small bathrooms. We only had nine on the first floor and it was insufficient. Further, the refrigerator leaked water in the main compartment and after two repair visits it was not repaired. They did disable the ice maker so no ice for a beach vacation meant ice chests in the kitchen. Not the look or feel we had in mind for a rental of this price. ##### Paul M. The home was extremely clean. The rooms were all a great size and having so many of them was perfect for us. The house is setup were the second floor is only used as a living space (kitchen, family room, dinning room, etc.). Having this type of setup was perfect. It allowed those that wanted to go to bed early or sleep late the chance to do that without hindering the rest of the group. If there was anything to say that we would have changed it would have been to have more cooking utensils and beach towels, but as you can read from above it did not hinder our stay. Overall things were great. We feel blessed to have had the chance to stay here. ##### Seth H. Nov 15, 2019 #### November 2019 Stay Jewel in the Sand is an AMAZING house! We absolutely loved the 3 living areas. There is plenty of seating for the whole family. The pool sits on the beach so it was nice being able to hear the crashing of the waves while watching the kids splash around. It's only a short 15 step walk down to the sugar white sand. We especially enjoyed the 4th floor "party area" which had an outstanding view of the emerald waters and a well furnished balcony as well as a good size TV to watch the games. The elevator was most convenient when carrying up all of the groceries to feed our large family.
