Great place to stay!
I only stayed one night but this place was excellent and I will definitely be back. Super warm and friendly welcome, and excellent communication in advance of arrival. Room was clean, comfortable, quiet, set in a beautiful property. The sherry in the room was a cherry on the top of all this! Thoroughly recommend for anyone looking to stay in the area or passing through.

A gem of a guesthouse in De Rust
Stayed at House Martin while visiting relatives and it turned out to be a wonderful choice. Room was exactly as described - clean and very comfortable. We also booked two breakfasts and an evening meal and all were first class. Jan and Theresa couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming and if we're ever back in De Rust we'll definitely stay with them again.

The worst hotel I have ever stayed at
Without doubt the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. The owners are beyond rude, aggressive and unprofessional. The accommodation is tatty, scruffy and dirty. The photos are a total fraud - the place looks nothing like the pictures which must have been taken 20 years ago. They have a huge and very aggressive dog that attacked us when we arrived and tried to get out of the car and which roamed the property all the time growling and showing its teeth while the owner shouted and screamed at it to stop. When I asked why they had such a huge and aggressive dog they told me the area was extremely dangerous and this was reinforced by the fact that all the lamp posts had signs about beggers and muggings and you one was literally terrified to leave the property for fear of being mugged or murdered. I'm afraid I cannot find a singe good thing to say about Housemartin Lodge and my very strong advice would be NOT TO STAY HERE under any circumstances.

Although you made a booking to stay at House Martin, you did not get further than the parking lot as we refused you entry due to the fact that you had 2 dogs with you which is against our policy as we are not pet friendly, meaning that you did not have entry to any of our facilities. Your comment regarding our accommodation is therefore not true as you did not see anything but the parking lot. We were kind enough to arrange other accommodation, that are pet friendly, for you in our village. Reading your review, the only conclusion I can get to, is that you are confused with another establishment or you are trying to be malicious. The dog we have is a lovable, friendly Kerri Blue Terrier puppy. The village of De Rust is probably one of the safest towns in South Africa. In the 6 years that we have lived in De Rust, there has not been one mugging and serious crime is hardly heard of, thus my conclusion that you are intentionally malicious. For your referral, please look at our reviews on all social media with the lowest being 9.2 out of 10 and some up to 9.7 out of 10.

Good spot for overnight stop
Quaint old Karoo rooms nicely renovated. Safe parking and a lovely pool. No food but it’s a few steps away to local cafe.

Housemartin oasis in De Rust
After the usual hectic family Christmas season, my family needed some peace and quiet in the countryside, without giving up any creature comforts, and it being December, a pool and aircon were not negotiable. Just as well - De Rust greeted us with 43 degrees on check in, so the pool came into use in short time. The rooms are large, modern, and each individually decorated. The gardens are lush and well cared for. Housemartin is a genuine oasis in the Karoo dessert. The pool srea has a fridge for your perishables and offers gas, weber and wood braai facilities. Firewood starters and necessary tools are provided free of charge. Alert your hots that you wish to braai, and they provide plates, cutlery and even salad dressing as a braai pack - all on the house! Your hosts Theresa and Jan Venter are friendly without being obtrusive, and a wealth of knowledge about things to do and see in the area. In your room you will find a daily supply of teas and bodem coffee (not that packet rubbish), as well as a carafe of sherry tp takes the edge off the day. A highly recommended stay.

A very warm welcome.
We enjoyed our stay in this guest house. The owners provided a very warm welcome. The room was clean, comfortable and spacious. the local area is scenically beautiful.
