The Mansion on Main is a 7 bedroom, 6 bathroom home located in the Historic District of Danville, Virginia. It is formerly known as the Lawson-Overbey Inn, which was originally built in the 1800s with renovations taking place in 1911, 1972, and most recently, 2022\. This property features a mix of Italianate and Georgian design and architectural elements. Each room has a unique feel with a mix of eclectic furniture that takes you back in time. From the front of the home, you can immediately feel the grandeur of it and its coziness at the same time. Up the staircase, you'll find rocking chairs to sit and relax and watch the passersby on Main Street. When you enter through the double doors, you're welcomed by a large and spacious hallway. The main level hosts a variety of sitting areas, a piano room, a social bar, a grand dining room, and a main floor master bedroom with an attached bathroom. It also holds the kitchen, overflow gallery, a sunroom dining area, and laundry room with an additional full bathroom. The kitchen is filled with everything you will need to prepare a meal for friends and families. From a kitchen aid mixer to blenders, large serving trays, pots and pans, salt/pepper/oil/spices, dinnerware, glassware, and much more. The kitchen has a commercial/restaurant-grade oven and gas stove to create chef-inspired meals. Step outside the dining room to enter a large balcony that overlooks the garden. The balcony has built-in seating and foldable tables and chairs are available for extra seating. There is a large gas-operated gas griddle, gas grill, and gas firepit outside as well. The lower level includes a lower-level master bedroom, a full bathroom, a large entertainment area with a movie theatre, a foosball table, a billiards room, a small hair salon, and a sauna room. There is also a secondary laundry room as well as an additional refrigerator/freezer. The upper level takes you to a grand hallway with five bedrooms and three full bathrooms. Three bedrooms have two queen-size beds, while the fourth has one queen and two twins, and the fifth bedroom has 6 full-size bunk beds (3 sets of full over full). The hallways are not air-conditioned but three rooms have their own A/C window units. Two of the rooms have portable fans but are connected to rooms with AC units. The heat in this home is operated by radiator heating units. Scroll through the images to view the property floor plans. The home is on keyless entry and has contact-free check-in. We use GetDuve for online check-in and guest ID verification prior to providing check-in instructions. A floorplan is available to guests upon request or at the time of booking (in the listing photos and on our site). A security/damage deposit is required of all guests, regardless of the booking portal. There are a lot of stairs to get inside and all throughout the house. Although this was luxury 100 years ago its sorta roughing it by todays standards. Hot water is at a premium and master not exactly a master with no usable shower. Everyone loved it the first day but after coming home all sweaty after a long day at VIR we just wanted a good shower and good AC... Some rooms had bad smell, especially the BR in the basement. Lots of room for everything. We had minor plumbing and electrical issues. Some of the bedrooms were inter connected, had privacy issues. Unfortunately it rained most of the week so rare use of the pool. Had space for everyone. Had some trouble with check in, but owner responded quickly. There are some "old house" issues as per the description--breaker in the main suite kept tripping which we could remedy(though took awhile since the junction box for that was on the 2nd floor). Then on the last day on wall in the kitchen tripped and we couldn't find that one, so had to move the coffee pot to another room. The 1st major issue was the mattresses. They were horrible-- sunken and lumpy and very uncomfortable. And there is no excuse for that, it has nothing to do with being a historic home, although it is possible these were the original mattresses.,they were that bad ( except in the master suite,those were fine).The biggest issue was the leaking in the basement. The stench of mold was so strong, we weren't able to use the basement bedroom and bathroom at all. Some people ( mostly kids) could tolerate long enough to be in the game room, but my throat would burn just walking through the hall. The 2nd refrigerator I don't think was advertised, but was nice to have, though even at the coldest setting the freezer couldn't freeze water. I also don't think the commercial ice maker was advertised, which was really convenient especially in summer! I think this property has good potential, just hope the owners out in the investment because the house really is beautiful. ##### KRISTEN L. However, in a random stroke of luck I found the listing and went for it. The house is beautiful and unique and in some ways quirky. Accommodations were simple for a large group because of all the comfortable sleeping options. The entire place is clean and has anything you would need for a multi-day stay. Weather was bad for our trip and it mattered not. Theater, board games, foosball, pool or just hanging out and drinking...all was available.
