"A palace in Amsterdam"
From the moment the cab passed the gate and into the courtyard I knew I had arrived. Everyone from the concierge to the front desk staff to the bartender at the Flying Dutchman, to the gracious room service personnel was friendly and eager to help. The room was beautiful and exquisitely appointed. It's worth the slight extra cost.

"Fabulous location "
Wonderful location, train from airport fast, then easy walk 10-15 minutes to hotel. Paid 60E per day to upgrade room which included water view, breakfast and free happy hour (2 hrs) including beer, wine and snacks. (Worth it!) Walked downtown Amsterdam several times including red light district and canal cruise. Could've walked to cruise port (15-20 minutes, but wimped out and got taxi 15E. Room was smaller but functional, view great!

"Quirky hotel right on the canal"
This was a great little hotel right on the canal, 15 minutes' walk to the station, and 7 minutes to the red light district. We initially had trouble checking in, as we could not rouse our host. But we arrived to drop our bags an hour earlier than we advised, which caught him off-guard. However he was a great host and helped us with our ample luggage. We stayed in the huge family room with views front and back, furnished with a queen bed and pull-out sofa (both super comfy), a well-stocked kitchen and dining area, complete with chandelier. The bathroom was very small and dated, but clean. Our room took up the entire 4th floor, and there was no lift, but we loved the tiny winding stair cases, and even my 82-year-old mother could handle them with a few rests on the way. The De Baronie is well looked after with heaps of character.

"Nice hotel, good location... But"
Nice hotel in a nice location. Easy access to all the the surrounding area and the RLD. Couple of good international known supermarkets and local supermarkets around which are highly recommended for at least drinks and snacks. A €1.09 bottle of water in the supermarket was €6 in reception. Soft drinks and hot drinks around the RLD are very pricey. €4.50 for a hot chocolate, €3.50 for a bottle of pop (€1.50 in supermarkets). There is construction currently on going next door but didn't really cause us any disruptions or anything like that. The staff at the hotel on reception couldn't be nicer and more attentive. The only real downsides was the space in the room and utilities. We had a 2 single bed room booked but actually came as a double and a single, this cramped the room a bit, there was no bedside table/power supply and there was no in room fridge to keep any of your own food and drink. Would stay here again and would recommend staying.

"Great stay"
Great roomy apartment. One single master bedroom with a queen sized bed and one sofa couch (sleeps two but will be a tight fit). Towels and sheets (fresh out of the box) were provided. Owner of the apartment met us and was extremely polite and helpful. He was considerate and flexible as to when we arrived and when we planned on leaving. There is no "staff" and therefore no room cleaning since you are renting an apartment. Great location in the enter of town and easily accessible to the train station. Our apartment was above a bar so maybe it is not the best solution for family's with young children. Can hear music from the bar until about 1 am on week days and up to 3:30 am on weekends. Music not terribly loud but audible. Didn't stop us from sleeping and we greatly appreciated the bar being open almost 24/7 because it made us feel more secured and the bartenders were almost like the staff. They were extremely helpful and a couple even ate dinner with us and told us stories about the town. Overall a perfect experience and wonderful place to stay. Did have to pay cash up front but the owner gave a receipt so all went well. Would recommend to anyone who wants a good local place to stay at a good price and who wants their privacy and not bother with hotel cleaning people and other nonsense. Oh and the apartment comes equipped with a kitchen so meals may be prepared there.

Pocket Guide: Dam Square - Central Station, Amsterdam Pet-friendly Hotels

The bustling heart of Amsterdam, this district attracts hordes of visitors teeming from Centraal Station to Dam Square and its beautiful Nieuwe Kerk (14th-century). The oldest part of town, Oude Zijde, is famous for its Red Light District, but the University and the docks bring a different kind of colour and buzz to the narrow streets. Don't miss the Oude Kerk, the Amstelkring Museum or the paintings in the Amsterdam Museum.
