The house has a private setting with an attractive garden laid out over the hillside with rough rock garden paths among the varied plants and shrubs. Lonsdale is furnished and equipped to a high standard to ensure a completely enjoyable stay. The spacious rooms have superb views of the estuary and the dining room has patio doors to a sun trap patio - whilst you may find you just want to sit and enjoy the seascape you should still make the effort to explore the wonderful local area! Rockcliffe is an popular family holiday location with its safe beach and varied walks, be it round to Kippford for a pub lunch at one of the two water front hotels or to explore the rocky out crop of Castle Point and on via cliff top walks to Smugglers coves. Kippford is a busy sailing centre and other outdoor activities are well catered for in the local area with Horse Riding, fishing of all sorts, golf of all sorts with a 9 hole course at Kippford, 18 holes at nearby Colvend and the Southerness links championship course only a few miles further on round the Solway coast. Wildlife can be seen where ever you are with red squirrels in most areas and excellent bird watching at RSPB Mersehead reserve and also on the Red Kite trail near Loch Ken. For those looking for strenuous pursuits the Forestry Commission 7stanes trails are all easily accessible and the Dalbeattie woods trail is less than a 5 minute drive away.
