Belmond Hotel Monasterio

Calle Palacio 140, Cusco - Map
"A most lovely experience!"
Monasterio was our backup choice and we had been slightly disappointed that our first choice (the one next door) was fully booked. But Monasterio turned out to be such a beautiful, elegantly adorned place. We were greeted with a huge surprise of room upgrade from junior suite to the royal suite. The room was impeccable, but the staff was most definitely the best part of Hotel Monasterio. The service was everything you would expect of a top-notch hotel, but in addition to the professional range, Monasterio offers a personal touch and cares about its guests. I came back from a day trip to Machu Picchu with a terrible headache due to altitude sickness. The staff who came to turn down our bed hurried to bring me coca tea, checked the oxygen and helped ordering some broth to relieve my symptom. Had I not been that sick, I would love to thank them more properly. Of course, they were also extremely knowledge and helpful about getting around and shopping in Cusco. It only take a trainee concierge gentleman one minute to detail a map about how to find Maca powder in the local market--and it was so impressively accurate! Before we remembered to ask, we had spent hours wandering the city for the product to no avail.

"Great stay in Cusco!!"
This hotel is very central to everything and the staff was super friendly. Breakfast was great, lots of variety great service. General TiPS....when you get to Cusco just relax in your room the first day/night. The altitude is no joke. The hotel provides oxygen for $35 so if you are feeling light headed or out of breath this comes in handy. ALSO no alcohol or heavy foods the first night. High altitude affects your digestive system so take it easy. If you are going to Machu Picchu leave your luggage at the hotel or pack lightly. The train station is 30 minutes away and traffic is awful so the less you carry the easier your life will be! Bon voyage my friends!!

Calle Carmen Bajo # 257 San Blas, Cusco - Map
"Good location close to Plaza de Armas"
We were located in a room close to the street side and the first night we had problems sleeping because there was a lot of noise from workers repairing the streets. The next morning we told the concierge the situation and she kindly gave us another room (an upgrade) far from the noise. After we moved we slept perfectly.

"Good hotel for our family"
This inexpensive hotel is located just steps from the Plaza Regocijo, which itself is just down the street from the Plaza de Armas. It is in an excellent location for historic Cusco. We were there on Good Friday and we had the good fortunate of witnessing the Good Friday parade/procession from our balcony. The breakfast was also pretty good. Coca tea, coffee and fruit smoothies, and cereal, yogurt, fresh bread, avocado and jam rounded out the hearty selection. I really liked the interior breakfast courtyard space. As for the negatives, the room is very basic and the walls are so thin that you could hear every one of your neighbor's steps. We came with two small children so we were probably the ones making the most noise in the hotel. Moreover, there was a car alarm that kept going off right outside of our window all three nights, and it definitely woke me up each night. Lastly, the staff was super friendly. They let us leave our luggage there from 8am the first morning (prior to check in) to 11pm when we returned from Machu Picchu. When we arrived, the receptionist who I believe lives there was kind of drunk, pointed us to the bag room and gave us the room keys. It turned out to be the wrong room size, but we went ahead anyways. In the morning, it turned out that he had not registered us so the morning receptionist had no idea we had stayed there. This was more comedic than anything, not really a complaint. Overall good bargain though.

"Very clean hostel! "
It's a walking distance to the center, it's clean, and the staff is very helpful. It was a bit cold in my room and the front desk had someone bring up a heater without me having to ask. Very accommodating with the breakfast in the morning and the anytime tea. Love this hostel! I'd stay here again.

SecondHome is truly a truly a cozy abode away from home. The room is warm and inviting, spacious and clean. breakfast is prepared for you once you enter their kitchen, which definitely feels like a kitchen at home. It is also about a 10 minute walk from the main plaza in Cusco, which is a plus. The owner is wonderful and their driver Wilbur was very accommodating in providing rides to and from the airport.
