Great location in the middle of everything. I had a room overlooking the main plaza and it was amazing. The staff is friendly and great. Fine Print: I wouldn't recommend staying here if you're driving a car or have a rental car, because parking is difficult in the area and the hotel doesn't have a parking lot of its own that I know of. Fine Print: I also wouldn't recommend staying here if you're a light sleeper because the plaza can get noisy with events. I slept just fine but other people who I was with did not. Tours will pick you up early. A lot of restaurants, bars, coffe shops, souvenir stores around and right in the main plaza. Staff was amazing. Zoila did our check in and she was very helpful. You're right in the middle of the square. So much to do right outside your door. Showers were hot and if you needed it they had a heater in the room. We were a party of 6 and one day we were leaving before breakfast and ask if we might get something to go. They did us one better, they set up a full breakfast for us earlier than they would normally open. The woman that ran the breakfast couldn't have been more accommodating. If there was something new to the buffet, she would walk around and ask everyone if they would like to try it. The front desk also was great. I used the laundry service, left the laundry at the front desk and when I got back late the next night stopped to pick it up and told it was already in my room! They were friendly and helpful. Central, lovely friendly helpful staff, good breakfast, very clean, plenty of hot water 24/7 The standard double was fine (we had 1 night in this room type) but for other nights we found it worth paying a little extra for the Panoramic Suite which had loads of space, great while on an extended stay, a huge walk in shower which was great when returning from jungle trips and treks, and quite simply the best view in Cusco. The Plaza de Armas is lively though, especially in June, so expect some noise but grandstand views of all the parades and dance events. We didn't find the noise to be to much though and in fact during our stay the french doors onto the balcony were upgraded which gave a peaceful night's sleep even at the height of the Corpus Christ week celebrations ##### Ian Stayed 1 night in Jun 2024 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Chiao Wei Sep 17, 2023 Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, property conditions & facilities, room comfort #### Great stay It’s great place to stay and being a hub for exploring a Cusco and its surroundings. We stayed three nights here. It’s at the best location of the city-main square. All the restaurants are easily accessible. And tour companies are nearby so it’s easy to go for day tour. Before we left for Machu Picchu we left our big luggage in the hotel for two nights and they had no problem at all. We are grateful for that. It’s in the city center so we didn’t expect a big room. But actually it’s big enough for three of us and luggage our room doesn’t have a view of the square but I’m glad that. Because the square can get quite noisy during the day until late night (actually whole night). We stayed in room 304 and we had to literally seat on the bed to be able to open the bathroom door. The space was very tight! We had booked for 3 nights and we checked out on the first night. We’re NEVER returning! The staff was very friendly but what you see in the pictures does not have an accurate description. It’s ideal for exploring the center of old Cusco. The staff were very friendly and as helpful as possible. The breakfast included with a night’s stay is typical of most Peruvian hotels but doesn’t start until 6:30 am which doesn’t work travellers doing an early start to Machu Picchu. We stayed in two different rooms during our stays there. If you’re booking try to get the suite room 205\. It’s spacious with a balcony facing the Plaza. Perfect for watching the square without being pestered by the constant stream of independent ‘souvenir’ vendors hawking their wares. The other room, a double standard on the third floor was tiny with no room to move and a window facing an inner ventilation shaft. Because it is an older boutique hotel there is no elevator. And there is often just a petit young woman on the front desk so be prepared to carry your own luggage possibly as much as two flights of stairs. An exhausting labour in the thin oxygen of the 11,000 ft. altitude. But given the very reasonable price of the rooms and it’s excellent location, we highly recommend the El Virrey and would give it at least a 4 out of 5 stars. ##### Ronald Stayed 1 night in Mar 2025 ### 2/10 Terrible #### Karina Nov 14, 2023 Disliked: Staff & service, amenities, property conditions & facilities We chose this property due to its location right in front of plaza de Armas. The staff seemed a bit odd, and not very friendly. Everything seemed tolerable until I got severely beaten by what seem to be bedbugs and fleas!!! I immediately notified the staff, and they switched us to another room in the middle of the night, but I was leaving for a tour very early in the morning, and so I left that morning with my body covered invites, and when I came back, we simply decided to leave this dirty and old hotel! The staff cooperated as far as releasing us without having to pay for the stay, but did end up spending extra money in a doctor and medications as the bites were extremely uncomfortable. The hotel refused to help compensate for the inconvenient and helping perhaps pay for the medical expenses.
