Great experience. Friendly helpful staff, beautiful resort, pools & hot tubs. Complimentary shuttle to Coronado and buses & ferry from there to San Diego. We did a trolley tour of San Diego, harbor cruise, walking tour of Coronado, toured the Midway ship & ate at some great sea food restaurants (our favorite is Anthony's on the harbor in San Diego - great food and a wonderful view of the bay).
We have visited the Del Coronado a few times before and always wanted to stay. All I can say is stay away from the hotel at Christmas. The public areas (lobby, restaurants, bars) are wall to wall tourists. The rooms we stayed in were nice and clean but noisy. However, we could not get a seat or table in any of the hotels facilities during the three days we stayed there. The main bar looks very attractive but was packed with noisy families and kids running around all over the place.
The room was very large, the bed not too comfortable. The location is excellent for visiting all the attractions near downtown (San Diego Zoo, Old Town, Midway, Sea Port Village, etc.) and just across the street from Hotel del Coronado and the beach. The staff was accommodating. We did have an issue with the odor in the room and the staff tried to take care of it but was not completely successful. The restaurants were great!
From beginning to end, this hotel provided us with a superlative experience. The breakfast was excellent, the rooms were very comfortable (and that includes the spa!), and the concierge Ally was extremely helpful.
We will definitely be using this hotel again in the future!
Coronado, attached to the mainland by the San Diego-Coronado Bridge, is a wealthy island community west of downtown San Diego. Visitors flock to the picturesque beachfront city to soak up the sunshine at Coronado's many top-rated beaches. Coronado is crowned by the elegant Hotel del Coronado, a beachfront Victorian resort completed in 1887 and now a designated National Historic Landmark.
