By the early 1980's, there were only twenty-two left on the face of the planet, all in California. Today, thanks to a massive effort to re-populate the species via in-captivity pairing, there are some two-hundred members. But their recovery is far from assured. The Oregon Zoo has undertaken its own recovery effort whose ultimate goal is the re-introduction of the species into the protected wilderness area around the Columbia River Gorge. There was plenty of room for everyone to enjoy this family get together and have areas to spend quiet time as well. The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms were spotless. The kitchen was stocked with plenty of cooking and eating utensils but some frying pans needed replacement. The only other improvements that could be made would be changing the kitchen sink faucet aerator to prevent spraying too much water outside sink area and putting on new kitchen chair feet protectors. We enjoyed our stay very much and would highly recommend it to others. ##### Carl H.
