From Como San Giovanni railway station, you can regularly reach Milan Central Station and Switzerland (Lugano, Bellinzona, Locarno), while from Como Nord Lago station you can reach Milan Cadorna railway station. The nearest airports are Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate, and Orio Al Serio in Bergamo. Shuttle services to and from the airports can be easily arranged at an additional cost. TIPS We recommend dedicating a day to visiting the wonderful towns around the lake. When moving around and walking along Lake Como, it is advisable to wear comfortable shoes. There are many public drinking water fountains in the area, and the water is safe to drink unless otherwise indicated. Tap water is also drinkable. You can bring your reusable bottle with you! If you are looking for a relatively easy hike in the area and still want to enjoy the mountain views, the Lake Como Greenway is an easy-to-follow trail that connects the lake towns from Colonno to Griante and does not require too many climbs. A bus will take you to the starting point in Colonno. Look for traditional restaurants to taste local dishes, such as those based on Lake Como fish. In Italy, many shops (especially small ones) and services are closed in the middle of the day, so make sure to plan your purchases accordingly. Lake Como is one of the deepest lakes in Europe and the deepest in Italy. Swimming and diving are prohibited in many areas and can be dangerous. However, for those who want to swim in the water, there are some options. In Como, there is an outdoor pool near Villa Olmo, but swimming in the lake is strongly discouraged and mostly prohibited. There are beaches in other locations along the lake shores. A beautiful beach is located in Careno, but it could be crowded on weekends. Residents and visitors also love to go to Nesso, where the bravest swimmers can dive into the lake from the ancient Roman bridge near the waterfall.
