The original style of the cottage has been maintained, with 2 open fires to add comfort, alongside the oil-fired central heating. This is a cosy cottage for winter rental. Timber and tiles have been used throughout for the flooring which both retain the character of the cottage as well as provide for a clean house. The cottage sleeps 7, with the ground floor adapted for wheelchair access. There is free WIFI internet access installed in the cottage with excellent reception.There is a shed alongside, with chest freezer and ample space for outdoor gear. Situated on 1 acre, a small stream, field and trees make this a very peaceful property. Direct Flights: Kerry Airport is situated 50 mins drive from Direen Cottage. The “cottage” is a 3 bedroom house, and was very clean and well supplied. Enjoyed some breakfasts on the sunny mornings outside. We enjoyed fishing and walking at Fermoyle Beach, and walks in to Loch Duin, Brandon Point and Glanteenassig Forest. Ireland is lush, and spectacularly beautiful. I hope to return. ##### Lucy B. Jun 26, 2008 #### Ideal home from home retreat I and a friend and colleague have now made three visits to Direen for a combination of business and holiday reasons. We have been impressed by the high levels of comfort offered by the amenities with a feeling of welcome and homeliness (eg the books and games that are available in the parlour). The cottage has been an ideal base for exploring and comforting to return to if the weather hasn't been too good - although on the whole it's been lovely, even out of season, for most of the time. There is a ground floor wet room for returning surfers (local huge surf beach very near by) or for people unable to use the stairs - there is also the possibility of using a ground floor bedroom although disabled access may be difficult for some, owing to small steps into the house. The owners have invariably been welcoming, kind and helpful and we have recommended the property to friends and family - we hope to return next year as a larger group. Local archaeology is superb as are the geology, marine life and scenery. Dingle has lovely restaurants and shops and Fungi the dolphin - always great to see him. The home was very clean and the heating system was perfect, always very comfortable. What I loved about the home most was the privacy. There are no other homes nearby so it was The perfect Get-Away home. If you want to get into the village of Cloghane it only takes 5 mins by car, we loved to walk to the village breathing in the air and taking in all the sites at a slower pace. If you want to do shopping Dingle was 20 min away. Dingle is great for shopping and visiting the pubs and restaurants,. One night we went to hear local Irish tradition music at Killigans pub,I highly recommend visiting there and have a pint or 2 of Guinness. The Brandon, Cloghane area have the most beautiful country side I have ever seen. You have the mountains to your back and the Wild Atlantic Ocean in front of you. Fermoyle beach is just down the road where people surf and kite board.,We loved the home and area so much we plan on going back and staying for a month. Next year. Direen Cottage ist very cosy and comfortable.We stayed there three weeks and it was extremely spacious even for 6 people, with a large dining room/ and very cosy living room, well equipped with wooden irish-style furniture and turf fireplace and oven. The kitchen is fully equipped, everything you need is provided. You hear the little stream behind the house, the bats under the roof and the rustling of the leaves outside - very relaxing! Direen Cottage is a perfect base-camp if you want to explore Dingle-peninsula, go for walks or to the beach. Janet ist a lovely host, she awaited us with fruit bread and all ingredients for a good irish breakfast as well as her good advice for things to do. She even organized for a guitar, so I could practise some folk music for the tintean ceoil ( is it "music at the fireplace"?) in Cloghane. Any question? Ask Janet! Even medical emergencies (my son sliced his thumb open with a pocket-knife) were solved competently with her help. We really loved our stay and really want to come back! ##### Dietrich S.
