The Neighborhood: The cottage is nestled on a quiet road in the village of Fishbourne, located at the head of Chichester Channel, one of the long arms of Chichester Harbour. The village is most famous as the site of Fishbourne Palace, the largest Roman villa in England. Chichester’s historic city centre is approximately 2 miles away and home to a magnificent cathedral, art galleries and shops. There is a wide variety of restaurants, bars and cafes. A mile or so to the west is the pretty sailing village of Bosham, with a quay, cafes and waterside pub. Head to The Witterings (20 minutes drive) for beaches, coastal walks, pubs and fish & chips by the sea! Getting Around: The wider area is best explored in a car. But there are regular buses to and from Chichester, as well as a train station in Fishbourne with direct routes to London and Portsmouth. Tranquil surroundings but walkable to fishbourne Roman palace. Noticed a couple of clothes moths but to be expected in an old cottage like this. As four adults only two of whom are a couple, we often struggle to find affordable accommodation. The setup of the double room and separated single day bed upstairs and double downstairs made this perfect for our weekend getaway. I enjoyed cooking in the cute kitchen with its innovative pan hanger! A short drive to the beach at West Wittering and several farm shops in the vicinity.
