Surrounded by open, expansive garden and within just a short walk of both Sudeley Castle and the town of Winchcombe, Almsbury's location is idyllic. Bursting with unique period features, hidden staircases, surprise rooms and all the utilities and equipment you will need, Almsbury is the ideal property for larger groups and families looking for a little more space. Spread over three floors, on the ground floor guests have use of a cosy sitting room, impressively large dining room, kitchen, utility room, children's playroom, downstairs WC and snug/breakfast room. There is access to the first floor via two separate staircases, where three sumptuous king size double bedrooms can be found, two with en-suite bathrooms as well as one family bathroom. Go up a smaller staircase to the second floor, and you will find three twin bedrooms, one is very large with plenty of beanbags - making for a great alternative playroom! There is also another family bathroom on the second floor. The annexe is self-contained, featuring a downstairs kitchen/living area and upstairs double bedroom and en-suite bathroom. Outside, guests have access to a large garden, as well as a raised decking area with outdoor dining furniture. Lady Ashcombe has taken a special interest in the design and furnishing of the farmhouse and has personally selected works of art, objects and furniture that reflect the history and unique character of the building. Some of the contents come directly from the Castle's collection, others from local antique shops and auction rooms. Main House - Ground Floor Entrance Hall: The old front door leads into a stone-floored entrance hall which leads into the sitting room (up two steps) and the dining room. One of the two flights of stairs to the first floor is in front of you, leading to a spacious landing with bookshelves and seating for reading with views of the courtyard. Sitting Room: This spacious room is elegant and welcoming, complete with two large sofas to seat eight people, two chairs, a decorative fireplace, a 65" TV and a Blu-ray player. There is a choice of reading material on the bookshelves, a large upholstered stool doubles as a place to rest your book, and the two windows have window seats where you can perch and look out at the view. Dining Room: A real talking point of the house, the dining room seats 14 guests comfortably around a large dining table, it's the perfect spot for convivial meals with all your guests. A wood-burning stove is flanked by two large windows, filling the room with light, a further bay window looking onto the rear courtyard. Snug/Breakfast Room: This is a charmingly cosy room if you're looking to dine in a slightly more informal environment than the dining room, it's a lovely place for a relaxed breakfast. There's a wood-burning stove within an original stone fireplace, a dining table seating six, a sofa and a 40" TV. Kitchen: There are two steps down into the kitchen, which is a well equipped and social space with an extendable island in the centre. Preparing meals is easy with a range-style oven, free standing fridge and separate built-in fridge. There's also a microwave and a dishwasher, whilst coffee fans will be happy with the Nespresso coffee maker. As you'd expect the kitchen is fully equipped with plenty of utensils, crockery and glasses. Boot/Utility Room: This is a useful space for drying and muddy boots! There's a washing/dryer machine, second dishwasher, deep ceramic sink, ironing board and clothes airer. You will also find outside glasses and plates kept in the cupboards above the sink. Downstairs WC: A downstairs WC with washbasin and heated towel rail. Playroom/Snug: A perfect little room for children, the playroom has a TV and a sofa. First Floor Bedroom 4: A charming king-size bedroom with a decorative fireplace, two large built-in wardrobes, dressing table and beautiful views out towards the garden. Bedroom 2: A comfortable twin bedroom with reading lamps and a sweet writing desk for those looking to work away from the hustle and bustle. Bedroom 3: Located through Bedroom 2, this is a very large twin bedroom set in the eaves of the house, with twin beds, a sofa, free-standing clothes hanger and plenty of beanbags. A perfect set-up for children and doubles as an excellent second playroom. Please note, this bedroom can only be accessed by walking through Bedroom 2. Outside To the rear of the property is a large, tiered lawned garden framed by a Cotswold stone wall and trees, Winchcombe's picturesque church stands proudly in the background. On raised decking, there is a garden table for 14 people with a retractable parasol, and a BBQ (charcoal - please bring your own fuel). To the front, there is a sloping lawn with the Isbourne River gently running along at the bottom. The Church and rooftops of Winchcombe can be seen in the near distance. There is ample parking for 8-10 vehicles. The Annexe Across the gravelled courtyard from the main house is the Annexe. This self-contained, two-story, one-bedroom, one-bathroom additional accommodation is ideal for large family groups who have one or two guests who prefer extra privacy or quiet. Step through the front door into the hallway, where there's plenty of room to leave boots, shoes, and coats. To the left is the staircase to the bedroom and bathroom. The annexe features an open-plan kitchen-living-dining area, with original arched doors opening onto the courtyard and a window in the kitchen area overlooking the Farmhouse's fabulous garden and outdoor seating area. The living-dining space has a two-seater sofa, coffee table and a dining table for two. The kitchen is equipped with a hob/oven, toaster and kettle, plus basic utensils for preparing a simple meal/snack. Guests staying in The Annexe typically eat in the Farmhouse. It was a lovely stay in a unique location. We enjoyed the walks, the house, and all within it. Thank you so much! This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent Oct 8, 2025 #### Perfect farmhouse for family weekend We were staying in Gloucestershire for a family wedding and needed a large house for three generations. Not knowing the area it was slightly pot luck that we chose Almsbury Farmhouse but we couldn't have been more delighted with what we found. The house really is very special and didn't feel like a rental property at all; it was truly a home from home, cosy but with plenty of space, bags of character and well equipped. The position is perfect, being set within easy walking distance of the town, it also benefits from a true country feel being surrounded by barns as well as having open country views. We couldn't recommend the property more highly. This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 8/10 Good Sep 17, 2025 #### A great place but looking tired We had a great weekend at Almsbury Farmhouse and enjoyed complementary entry to Sudeley Castle....no mean thing given the entry fees. Almsbury is a massive property with plenty of space, a fabulously equipped kitchen, and a great gardens However it is expensive... On specifics ...the WiFi is really slow ### 10/10 Excellent #### Flippa F. May 19, 2024 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Fabulous all round Location was perfect - close to shops & bonus access to the castle, yet quiet & secluded house & garden. Well stocked kitchen, beautiful rooms for sleeping & Socialising. One of the best we’ve stayed in! ##### Flippa F. Jan 17, 2024 #### A memorable 80th birthday weekend The house was delightful, plenty of room for a family of 10, grandparents, parents and grandchildren. Loved the quirkiness of the building, comfortable beds and the location. ##### Alan R. Large communal spaces and also smaller ones. We had no children with us but there was a games room I'm sure would come in handy if you did bring children. Very close to the castle and lovely walks. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Kirsteen A. Apr 18, 2024 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Dad's 80th birthday celebrations Excellent stay at this lovely property with 3 generations of family. Great location, beautiful property with everything you might need. Thanks for the recommendation of El Toro Catering who were amazing and came to feed us all on the Friday - a very last minute booking! ##### Kirsteen A. Separate annex very handy. Fabulous location at the entrance to Sudeley Castle - well worth a visit, more fun than NT properties. Big back garden for dogs to run around and rugby balls to be thrown. If you find a green frisbee it's mine. WiFi is slow and TV hard to watch (Lions game Saturday) due to bandwidth. Winchcombe is pleasant albeit busy. White Hart Inn dreadful service. Top tip for family group:- Hire a narrowboat from Bidford Boats. This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent Jun 1, 2024 #### Spacious family home We were delighted with the size and layout of the farm house. There was plenty of space for the family to share time together. The house was clean, tidy and well equipped. ### 8/10 Good #### Greig L. Apr 7, 2024 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Great location, well laid out property The property is in a great location for Winchcombe. Walking distance (5 mins) to the centre. Would highly recommend the Lion Inn particularly in the village centre. The outdoor walled patio area is great, think it should be more easily accessed off the house if possible. Would recommend though for a family get together. ##### Greig L. Stayed 4 nights in Mar 2024 This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 8/10 Good Oct 31, 2023 #### A perfect place for family celebration A lovely old farmhouse with an extra annexe. Perfect for a family spanning three generations. Plenty of space. Well equipped kitchen with lovely spacious dining room to seat 14 people. Bolthole website gave information on local private chef(the Season Kitchen) who provided us with a wonderful celebration dinner. A relaxed happy weekend was enjoyed by all. This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Jean D. Nov 11, 2024 #### Great house and surrounds In the end, we were a party of 16 so we also booked Archers but most of our activities and evening meals were in Almsbury Farmhouse. It was lovely to stas in this perfect Cotswold Sone house, The long dining table was perfect for our group meals while the snug worked well for breakfasts and informal lunches. The provision of large dishes and plenty of workspace in the kitchen was appreciated. The younger members of our party enjoyed sleeping in the attic. One ceiling light was missing from the main bedroom. The surroundings were beautiful - easy access to shops, and many good walks and the castle were enjoyed by all. ##### Jean D. We had a fantastic time in the house, the kitchen is well kitted out and spacious. The dining room is superb and spacious enough for all the family. The gardens are beautiful. The only thing that we needed but couldn’t find were wine buckets! We looked everywhere!!! Other than that it was a wonderful weekend and a lovely house which we would recommend. This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent Sep 28, 2023 #### A great place for a large family gathering We had a wonderful weekend at Almsbury Farmhouse. The dining table can seat fourteen and the spacious kitchen was very well equipped. The house is full of character and our grandchildren loved exploring it and hiding in the large cupboards! On arrival, we wanted to turn the heating up but couldn't find the control panel with its screen. We rang the Sudely Estate office and a man explained it was on the first floor at the top of the stairs and he patiently waited while we got it set. Happily the house warmed up very quickly. The annexe is also lovely and well equipped for two people. We found the whole place superb. This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 8/10 Good Feb 29, 2024 #### Almsbury Farmhouse Fantastic house for large family gathering , plenty of space to spread out. House had some interesting features and hidden discoveries. Log fires and well stocked kitchen with use of two dishwashers helped. Location meant short walk to pubs and village with lots more of the Cotswolds to discover a short drive away Seeing a deer in the garden an interesting an expected bonus Only down side being two of the bedrooms had no heating. Radiators not working. However this reported and maintenance completed a site visit This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent Jun 4, 2024 #### Excellent place for family holiday We stayed at Almsbury farmhouse with 4 generations celebrating an 80th and a 1st birthday for 3 nights. The house is characterful, in a lovely location and very well equipped. A short walk to Winchcombe with an excellent butcher and free access to Sudely Castle, also a short walk away were ideal. Lots to do within the slightly wider area too. We easily cooked for the whole party in the well equipped kitchen. Plenty of kitchen equipment, 2 dishwashers and a range cooker. Only thing we wished we had bought with us were sharper knives. We really liked the outside space too. Loads of parking and huge garden. The children particularly liked the 'secret garden' through the archway outside the kitchen. BBQ also in this garden. The house was ideal for our stay and we would definitely recommend it and stay again ourselves. This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 8/10 Good #### ursula s. Aug 2, 2023 #### Lovely stay in a pretty farmhouse We had a lovely stay at the pretty Almsbury Farmhouse, it was an old farmhouse so the slanty floors, steps and low doorways were to be expected. The beds were very comfortable, kitchen well equipped and located in a quiet location. The opportunity to visit Sudeley Castle for free was fantastic and we had a brilliant day out there. The only negative comment would be that there was no blind on the window in the bedroom in the eaves and I feel that for a party of 12 that more shower enclosures would be useful. Two 'overhead showers' are actually hand held shower attachments which can only be used sitting in the bath. There were 12 of us and there was a lot of space for us all to spread out but to also be together. Lots of parking available and a good location to use as a base whilst visiting the Cotswolds. ##### ursula s. In the annexe bedroom the quality of the curtain was poor and it had quite a few broken hooks. In the main house in one of the bedrooms it only had one tie back pole and this was coming away from the wall. They too needed to be re-hung. In the large T.V. sitting room the carpet was stained by the radiator and had a hole in it. That said, we had a really enjoyable stay in a most welcoming house which was beautifully warm, full of history and interesting pictures and furniture. It wasn't too 'precious' which is just what you need with children and a dog! It had a great atmosphere and one immediately felt 'at home' and relaxed. We all loved it and would definitely like to stay again - maybe when Storm Bert isn't whirling around. The location is excellent, within easy walking access to really nice pubs and restaurants in the lovely town of Winchcombe. It is one of the few houses in the area that can accommodate a group looking for six bedrooms. However, we are becoming less enchanted as time goes by as the house is now looking a bit tired and really needs to be refreshed. There are signs of 'quick fixes' such as a cheap replacement toilet seat that doesn't fit properly, the light in lounge still doesn't seem to work properly, the central heating seems to be a bit 'patchy' (hot in some areas, not working in others) so that plug in electric heaters have had to be added. The place would benefit from redecoration throughout, and to ensure that all the bathrooms have usable, practical working showers (two of them have baths for with no easy way to use the shower attachment). As our family grows it becomes more difficult to find places big enough for us: fortunately our new baby didn't count so we were able to fit all 15 in easily. There was lots of comfy seating and dining space and a well equipped kitchen with very useful wine fridge. The children loved the rambling building, great for hide and seek! The annexe for Granny and Grandad was perfect! There's lots to do on the doorstep, some of us walked to Belas Knap Long Barrow, others went further afield to Stroud where the circus was visiting. The White Hart pub did an excellent lunch for us all. Free entry to Sudeley castle was much appreciated; we didn't have time to do it all so we'd like to come back next year. Just two suggestions - a couple of bigger cooking pans for large group cooking please and the lovely back garden would be more relaxing if it were securely fenced - the current fencing is attractive but no obstacle to a dog who loves chasing Muntjac deer or pheasants - both seen in the field next door. Jul 5, 2025 #### Beautiful property - perfect for large family gathering We had a wonderful time at Almsbury Farmhouse. It was nicely appointed with everything we needed. There were plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for our entire party to be comfortable. In addition, we loved the cozy sitting room and the enclosed backyard and patio area. It is a quick walk into Winchcombe or to Sudeley Castle. Winchcombe is a fantastic base for exploring the Cotswolds. We hope to be back soon! ##### Katherine W. Barbecue on the first night with all equipment there and then dinner out in Winchcombe on the subsequent 2 nights in 2 of the town’s excellent restaurants. A drive down to Woodchester Vineyard one day and a cycle up to Cotswold Lavender farm the next day. A drop in at the fascinating Sudeley Castle on the way. So much to do within easy daily access from this venue. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Katie S.
