BreezyShack Duplex 1 Block@ Beach on Tidal Creek. This upper floor of the duplex sleeps 6 in 3BR / 1BA renovated luxury. Outside deck and full –length screened in porch affords peek-a-boo ocean views while the breeze washes over the waves and through the house. Out back you can see your bocce ball court, and all the wildlife the tidal creek brings. This villa oasis is just 500ft from the beach, and 2 blocks to Center St. All new HVAC and Furnishings.

The space
Welcome to our 2 newest Shacks as part of The RatherShacks family of beachside rentals—BreezyShack and Shady Shack. They are 3BR / 1BA identical floor plans in a duplex home that sleep 6 each; or when rented together the house sleeps 12. These two units increase our total rental count to 14, and we’ve done some nice stuff in the past but this place takes the cake with extra icing on top. THIS DESCRIPTION IS SHADY SHACK DOWNSTAIRS. Both units in duplex have separate private entrance.

We all owe a great debt to the previous owners –an Italian couple with impeccable design taste and two huge green thumbs--who over 20 years meticulously remodeled every square foot of the house and the outside grounds into an Italian style villa oasis by the beach. They bought the property 10 years after hurricane Hugo dropped a live oak through the roof, and the tenants at the time (a stripper and part time professional surfer) supposedly got a break on rent from their out of state landlord to “patch the roof.” Well, It’s a known fact that strippers and surfers don’t make good roofers, so you can imagine the shape the place was in when they started fixing it up in 2000. What a long and crafted journey they took, and you win because the new owners who just hired us --Chris and Danielle --have vowed to keep up the mission of hosting discerning travelers like you in this hidden villa gem just 1 block to the beach and 2 blocks to Center St. Chris and Danielle are also Italian and they own a pizza business, so they know a thing or two about authentic Italian hospitality and charm.

The first thing you’ll notice about the house is all of the plants, as this huge lot is full of native growth live oaks, trained hedges, southern magnolias, palmetto palms, crepe myrtles, red maples, and exotic sago palms. If the canopy doesn’t provide enough greenery then the lush ground cover of elephant ears, ferns , hydrangeas, azaleas, and lilyturf will keep your quota of chlorophyll at its cap. Suffice it to say that just by walking on to the property you will be cool, calm, and collected. Not a bad way to start a vacation. But if its hot hot hot you want, then just trot down the gravel path lined with cobblestones to the back side of the house where you’ll find a wide open sun-drenched sand court that abuts a tidal creek(this is a shared space for both upstairs and downstairs units to use). Surrounded by low gardens, and multiple seating areas this can be an inland beach(no wind here if its too breezy at the real beach), or a bocce ball or badminton court. We’re even thinking of building a cabana bar for you to stock your cold ones in… got any ideas? Down here you may catch a glimpse of egrets or herons gliding above the tidal creek, and with bird houses capping every other fence post you’ll see your share of wrens, doves, and cardinals coming and going. The bright flutes in the potted plants attract the darting hummingbirds, and if you’re real lucky you may spy an otter swimming up the creek looking for his next all –you- can eat happy hour. From here too you see the house, and its second story built in the 1970’s(BreezyShack) clad in beveled cypress clapboards, and the original concrete structure on the ground (ShadyShack) covered in dense creeping fig vine. It’s a truly romantic setting and you’ll feel a touch of Tuscany looking at the gardens and bubbling pools lining the perimeter of this unique vacation oasis.

Enter BreezyShack from the stairs and be surrounded by your private potted deck/garden and the overhead trellis with wrapping winding wisteria. This entry spot on the 2nd floor of the duplex gets you sun or shade and a real deal peek a-boo view of the ocean , depending on what breezes are blowing. And it’s those balmy salty ocean streams of air that give her the Breezy name. From here too you can take in the view of the back yard, bocce ball sand court, lushly lined pathways, and of course the tidal creek. Enter through the full glass door into the open kitchen and see the luxury marble subway tiles and Carrera marble counter top and breakfast bar. There is a huge 33” copper sink that screams CUCINA ! but you’re not surprised as you spy the country cupboards and the vintage hunt board . You keep moving on to the open living and dining area, with dark hardwood floors and white bead board ceiling . The combo is so nautical you can finally tell yourself you’re not in Kansas any more . Three well -appointed bedrooms are at the rear of the house, with the master bed (KING MATTRESS) doning a fireplace mantel headboard from an original downtown Charleston mansion built in the 1800's...And it has its own glass door to the entry deck. Other bedrooms have a QUEEN and FULL mattress. The brand new bathroom down the hall offers you a deep soaking Kohler tub, custom mother of pearl wall tiles, and a one piece dual-flush toilet. Enter the full –length screened in porch off the living room through double French doors and it gives you more breezes along with bleacher seats to some of the lush trees and vegetation this yard has produced. Watch out, in between the zephers and swaying you may just see the ocean.

BreezyShack has all the modern conveniences you would expect at a high end rental. Cable TV, High Speed WIFI, dishwasher, miccrowave, deluxe maid service, and more.

Outside on the deck you will find a cute corner outdoor shower to wash away the sea and salt of the day. There is a gas grill to smoke those meats and fish and veggies to perfection before retiring to your deluxe kitchen inside. We provide 6 beach chairs and 6 beach towels for your surfside enjoyment.
Let’s not forget THE BEACH…which is probably why you’re here after all. It’s just a short 2 minute walk down the street to the most well-appointed beach access on Folly. The County maintains showers and fully air conditioned bathrooms here-one of only 3 facilities like it on the island. The dunes are soft, the sand sublime, and the Atlantic beckons. Summertime ocean temps peak near 88 degrees and the water is still 70-80 degrees in October—which is why we love living here, and why YOU will love vacationing here . And the iconic Folly Beach pier is in full view captivating the horizon . If you are an early bird grab your camera for some amazing sunrise shots from your beach access.

Another bonus for this location for those of you with little kids is the Wave Watch Playground just 2 blocks down the street. You can see it from the driveway… look right. If the beach didn’t knock your little monsters out, then 30 minutes here will guarantee a good nap for them; affording you a chance for a good NIP. It is after all YOUR vacation too!!!

And while we’re on the subject… it’s worth noting that one of our favorite bars are two blocks away – allowing you to turn your nip into an entire NIGHT , and find your way home without the help of a Covid-crazed Uber driver. Loggerheads is a 4 minute walk, and has the best deck bar and band stage and dining on Folly- and you’ll love the VW bus walk up bar. And now for the legal –type stuff: The home is located in a quiet residential section of Folly Beach and we do not allow parties or events. So you if you want a house party don’t book here. Folly has strict noise ordinance rules and is really cracking down with fines. Residential District QUIET HOURS are from 10pm-9am with no loud voices or amplified music inside or out. BreezyShack allows a maximum of 6 guests with 2 off street parking spaces and is strictly NON SMOKING and does NOT ALLOW PETS. We require all guests to sign our standard 2-Page South Carolina Short Term Rental Agreement which includes all the house and Folly Beach rules. We strongly recommend guests purchase TRIP INSURANCE which can protect you from last minute travel changes due to health, family, weather, or employment issues..…

Family beach week

Location location location! With 2 small kids and 4 adults this house was perfect for going back and forth from the beach and downtown. We could easily go back for lunch or if someone needed a nap. House was perfect for 6 people. The shower outside makes the 1 bathroom a non-issue. Sam was great to work with and immediately brought over 2 new beach chairs when we let him know 1 was broken. Would definitely stay here again!
