Historic Century Home on Chardon Square

This well appointed Century Home (built in 1824) is just steps from historic Chardon Square, which features many shops and restaurants to enjoy during your visit. You will have the entire first floor of the house (1800 sq. ft.) with complete privacy, including a private entrance. Park your car and walk to the Square, grab a bite to eat, and explore. Back at the house, borrow a book to read, watch a movie or TV, and relax. This spot is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy beautiful Chardon!

The space
Welcome to Canfield House, Chardon's Premier Guest House! This historic living space includes three well appointed bedrooms, an inviting living room, cozy sitting room, a recreation room, a dedicated workspace, and kitchen for your private use. Please feel free to enjoy our large backyard during your stay. Washer and dryer are available during your stay as well. Backyard Gazebo with chairs and tables, and State Park style charcoal grille are available for your use!

Guest access
You will have the whole first floor of the property and washer/dryer located in the basement. There is a locked office on the first floor to which you will not have access.

You should know
You will have 1800 sq ft. of private/secured area, which is the first floor of the property. Your area is totally secured including a private entrance and exit. This includes 3 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, a kitchen, living room, rec room, work room, sitting room, and laundry room. There is a resident in the second-floor apartment. She is a lovely lady. She is very sweet and very respectful or our guests. She has her own private/secured entrance/exit to the property and has no access to your area, nor do you to hers. In addition, there is a private locked office within the building. The office has a separate, private entrance/exit into the property as well. If you are staying with us between Monday and Friday, you may hear people in the basement office. However, no one in the office has access to your living area and they are very respectful of our guests and their privacy. If you are staying on the weekend, there will be no one in the office.

Family visit to Chardon
The Canfield House was perfect for us because of its location just 5min from family we were there to visit as well as being so close to the sqare. It was very clean and there were plenty of local information phamplets provided. It’s good to note there is only one fill bathroom that is shared jack and jill style between the bedrooms, that worked for us, but others might find it awkward.

Canfield House
We were visiting Chardon for a family reunion. We loved the Canfield House. It was perfect for all our needs. Michael and Lisa are excellent communicators and truly have thought of everything to make sure our stay felt just like home.

We loved our stay at the Canfield House! The house was lovely, a great location, and perfect for our group. Mike and Lisa are wonderful hosts! We appreciated the kind note and goodies that they left for us—including cookies and little toiletry gift bags for each of us. Definitely would stay again if in the area.

Lovely house
Everything was lovely. The house is clean and much bigger than I expected. It was nicely decorated. We came from different areas and there is plenty of parking. We mostly used the house to sleep but a couple in our party partook of some of the games and a couple others the selection of movies. My only complaint is that after paying a cleaning fee, you have to strip the beds and take the linens down to the basement and take out the garbage before you leave. This is my first Vrbo so maybe it is standard practice but it made checking out a little more onerous. I wouldn't take away a star for it though because everything else was so great. I would definitely stay again.

Enjoyed walking for dinner on the square, driving out to the covered bridges, Geneva on the Lake, and Ashtabula. Excellent communication with hosts and treats on arrival. Would definitely return if in the area.

Chardon's BEST!!
We could not be more pleased with our stay at the Canfield House, the owners literally did not miss one detail. Not one - it has everything you could want for a wonderful stay. The house itself is fantastic and much bigger than we had expected. It was cozy, comfortable and clean to a fault. We were simply amazed by the attention to detail - from the wonderful selection of coffees and teas to the helpful information about the area. This house has it all. The house is also just a few feet from Chardon square, shops and great restaurants. I would give this house and this house 10 STARS. If you are looking for a place to stay in Chardon, look no further - Canfield House and its Hosts is the best of best. We will without a doubt be back!!!

Family Thanksgiving

Fantastic stay
Everything was so well thought out! Our kids enjoyed the games, toys and books and my husband and I enjoyed everything else! The space was very clean with a lot of amenities and things to do. We appreciated all the lighting and night lights, which helped our toddler feel better about staying somewhere new. The welcome basket was unexpected but so nice! We would definitely stay again!

Best vacation rental ever!

Wonderful Stay
We had a wonderful stay at this property. The owners were very accommodating, and left us some great treats for our check-in. Also, we stayed during Thanksgiving, and the owners dropped by an electronic turkey roaster for us to you, which work out perfectly. Our young daughters loved the kid's room, which had a toy chest full of fun toys. I would stay here again.

Historic Property
This was our 2nd time staying at the Canfield House. We just love the location! We can be close to our family that live locally and walk to the Chardon Square. The house has everything you will need for your stay. The hosts are prompt to respond if you need anything. This is so much nicer than a hotel and well worth the price.

Wonderstruck Music Festival
In town for a music festival and couldn’t have been a better choice to stay. A quick walk to the town square for delicious restaurants, farmers market, coffee and even a car show the weekend we were there. So cozy! Kids had a great time keeping occupied with the pool table and games. The sheets were soooo soft. Super clean. Everything was perfect.

Five stars for Canfield House
We throughly enjoyed our stay at Canfield House. The house was very clean and well maintained, and our hosts were very accommodating including allowing us to host a potluck event in the backyard (we provided our own grills though, as there are none on site). The location was great. Close to downtown and walking distance to restaurants, which was handy. Only downside was limited counter space in kitchen and no oven, but that was hardly a problem. We highly recommend this VRBO and would love to stay here again if ever in the area. Thanks, Mike and Lisa!

Great location with nice touches!
Excellent location within a very short walk to the square. Very nice touches from the chocolates and wine to the game room with a pool table and anything else you may want to do! My husband is from Chardon and read through the history of Chardon book and learned all kinds of things he didn’t know! We all loved our stay, every little detail considered, we hope to be able to book for all of our visits home!

Everything you need for a break from your routine
Gorgeous and unique house. My sister had a desk, office & wifi for working during part of our stay. I explored the nearby trail for a nice long run. Quaint town with great restaurants and shops. We played pool in the evenings and learned about the rich history of the Canfield House, while enjoying wine and chocolates courtesy of our hosts. We highly recommend this property.
