Sofitel Casablanca Tour blanche

Rue Sidi Belyout, Casablanca - Map
"Sofitel, Casablanca - lovely hotel"
The hotel was great - very smart, modern and clean. They had me hooked on checking in - lovely welcome glass of peppermint tea and nibbles! Loved the spa pool, with the hanging Moroccan tables. Our room was lovely, with his n hers washbasins and walk in shower. Located near the old Madina, which is an easy 2-minute walk away. I'd definitely stay there again next time I'm in Casablanca.

Riad 7

2 Derb Chtouka, Medina, Azemmour - Map
"Location in interesting old medina"
I would have given this Riad all 5s had there been somebody there at the hotel when we arrived. We had to ask around in the medina for some time after 4, in my admittedly poor French, before finding somebody belonging to the hotel (and this was during the period posted for admissions - 4-8 pm). Also, it took 3 hours to get our passports back after giving them up to fill out forms. However, room was clean and pleasant, plumbing excellent, food good, and some of staff charming. I had the impression that it was a bad day for one of the owners. In any event, after all that was sorted out, the experience was good.

Mövenpick Hotel Casablanca

Rond - Point Hassan II, Casablanca - Map
"Reasonably priced city hotel"
The Movenpick was nice, but showing its age. The reception area, lounge and restaurants were nice, as was the room (for the most part), but the hotel was showing its age. The hallways in particular were in need of a refresh. Staff could best be described as courteous, but a bit cold (could be because I had just come from a 5 hour train ride and was dressed in shorts/t-shirt). However, I can't say that they didn't accommodate my needs and the service was overall very good. I only stayed one night in transit for a morning flight, so I cannot comment on the rest of the amenities (restaurants, spa, pool), but they did look very nice. Compared to other hotels I considered, the Movenpick provided excellent value and I would recommend as an option away from the Medina.

Riad Le Mazagao

"Very nice riad, excellent location"
This riad has an ideal location right across the Portuguese City and the Cistern. Chantal, the french lady who owns it is wonderful, and immediately makes her guests comfortable. She is always available to offer guidance, and genuinely cares about the authenticity of the Moroccan experience.

"Super dedicated staff who want to please"
The staff of this hotel is wonderful. Very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. It is a good value. The rooms are dated but everything works fine. El Jadida is very humid so everything in the room smelled a little like mold/mildew. The rooftop terrace is relaxing. Can hear the roosters in the morning.

"The Road to Casablanca"
I stayed here for five days in February. I'd been to Morocco a couple of times before, to Marrakech on both occasions. I booked this holiday on a whim - the hotel looked good in the photographs. What I hadn't fully appreciated was that it was so far out of town. When I realised exactly where it was - about 12 miles along the coast - I almost cancelled the booking. But I'm glad I didn't. Casablanca isn't like Marrakech; it's not really geared up for tourists (although some people would find that a distinct advantage!) and I saw what I wanted to see there on a day trip. But the hotel turned out to be just what I needed - some time to myself, to read and write. It’s close to the sea - wonderful Atlantic rollers breaking onto the rocks and a sea mist every morning. The room was comfortable without being lavish, and the satellite TV didn't really work, but I wasn't bothered by that. What I did like was having access to the Spa attached to the hotel - sauna, massage and hammam. I was disappointed that the ordinary swimming pool wasn't open, as it was too early in the season. The hotel staff were extremely hospitable and helpful, putting up with my dreadful French. Like the swimming pool, the restaurant wasn't open in the evenings, although the Tapas Bar served decent-enough food. There were a couple of other restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel. All I can say is that I had a really good five days at the hotel, but what I wanted might not be to everyone's tastes.
